XP Antivirus 2008 Infection...Please Help!

Hi Team Spybot,

I know you are all probably sick of hearing about this virus and I apologize in advance for adding to the myriad of sick computers. I will get straight to the point. I have a very unstable system now and have tried to remove this virus myself with no success. I may have even made it worse... hopefully not! Here are my symptoms and a current HJT log:

Symptoms:

1. blue screen, auto-reboot, blue screen, auto-reboot, ect., ect.
2. McAfee says "not fully protected" and unable to fix
3. Spybot S&D disabled due to missing .dll
4. Monitor control window pops up constantly by itself
5. semi-stable conditions in Safe Mode for a short period of time and then the above symptoms begin to occur in Safe Mode as well.

Make sure you read and follow the directions, anything else will slow the process and waste both of our time. I suggest you keep this computer offline except when troubleshooting, the junk may download more. If you have any tool I use, delete it and download it new from the link I provide. Read and follow the directions carefully, the tools will not work unless you do.

1) C:\Program Files\Grisoft\AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5\ <<< obsolete program, uninstall in ASdd Remove programs.

Make sure you remove what MBAM finds and "Save Logfile"

3) Post the MBAM logfile and a new HJT log using the correct verion.

Morning Marc, thanks for returning your information and the feedback. It looks like MBAM cleaned the infection, let's do some cleaning:

C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0\bin\jusched.exe <<< just a FYI, that is the Java scheduler which is not showing the correct update (which you have) the tool has always been buggy and since it does not work you may want to turn it off, it does use resources. I check Java manually for updates when I do Windows Updates, once a month or two.


1) C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Desktop\HijackThis.exe <<< unsafe location, follow these directions:
Download Trend Micro Hijack This™ to your Desktop
http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/hijackthis/HJTInstall.exe
Doubleclick the HJTInstall.exe to start it.
By default it will install HijackThis in the Program Files\Trendmicro folder and create a desktop shortcut.
HijackThis will open after install. Press the Scan button below.
This will start the scan and open a log. <<< close the program unless we need it again this session.

2) Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune
http://www.atribune.org/public-beta/ATF-Cleaner.exe
Save it to your Desktop. We will use this later.

3) Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

4) Run ATF Cleaner
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Click Select All found at the bottom of the list.
Click the Empty Selected button.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.
