View Full Version : Certain websites unavailable after service pack 3 / trojan

Hello!

I am experiencing a tricky (for me anyway) problem on one of my computers. The other day the yellow shield thing suggested that I install XP service pack 3 which I attempted, but somehow in the progress of this I got a variant of the "XP antivirus 2008" trojan on the computer. I say a variant because I have never actually downloaded that program and what happened was that my background picture got replaced with one containing a message box about some infections and then the trojan was activated causing a window to open which of course suggested I clean these. Even though it attempted to look official I got suspiscious anyway and killed the process using the task manager and subsequently cleaned my system using Ad-Aware.

However even though Ad-Aware and now your Spybot also declares the computer to be free of infections, I am not able to use windows update or a good number of websites like trendmicro and kaspersky and this one. More or less websites that would be able to help me get rid of stuff. I am writing this from another computer on the same network which has no problems of that sort.

In my attempt to find out what was causing this problem I have de-installed service pack 3 and now can't re-install it due to not being able to get to windows update.

Here is a hijackthis log from the computer with the problem (I can download the utilities from this one and transfer them via the network):

The only thing which looks a bit odd to me in there is the last line with the IDriverT.exe file. That's not anything I recognize.

Look forward to seeing what you make of this.

Best regards, Lasse

Hello helpers!

Just a small note here to inform you that I managed to solve my problem so I no longer need assistance. I was able to ascertain what needed to be done by reading posts around here on the forums, so even though it was indirect I would like to thank you all for your help!

Best regards, Lasse
