Hello, folks.

This started earlier this week. My wallpaper changed to the installation window image, and the screensaver changed to the blue screen. The two tabs were missing from the Display Properties window. I ran hijackthis and attempted to remove a "hijack: html/text" key which didn't work, so I removed it from the registry manually. I also changed the values in order that the two tabs missing from the Display Properties window reappeared - I have changed the background/screensaver back to black/none. I also deleted the installation window .bmp.

My browser has been hijacked. When I use the search window in IE7, it searches Google and lists valid results. However, I cannot click any of them - I am either redirected to fake "spyware cleaner" sites, or the pages refuses to load, period. Copying a link and pasting it into the URL area of IE7 only leads to IE7 searching Google for that link and displaying links.

Because I am not able to click links in IE7, I am not able to download any software to my computer. Tonight I updated to SP3 for XP (before reading the post which told me that I should not do so without ridding the system of malware), but the result was I was able to update Spybot. I had previously been unable to do this. I have run Spybot in safe mode and cleaned all entries... none of which were apparent Virtumonde entries.

I'm not sure what I can do in order that my browser doesn't redirect. I've reviewed many of the posts here which require downloading of various programs to clean the system (i.e. ComboFix), but I'm not sure I'll even be able to download them. I'm currently using another computer to access this site as I am unable to access it from my main system.

Anyways, here's the hijackthis.log file that I emailed from my infected system. I see several potential problems in this log, but I don't want to play with anything else lest I not be able to save the system at all.

Any help would be appreciated!

... I should also note I had prior versions of Java installed on the computer which I have since uninstalled. In fact, I unintalled all of the versions of Java I had installed. I'm assuming this is likely how this trojan got on my system in the first place.

Thought that might be important to state.
