I am trying to rid my nephews pc of viruses, its had or got loads! I downloaded spybot and its found and fixed about 20,000 malware issues, trojans, etc... Its now picking up virtumonde.dll, virtumonde, virtumonde.prx and virtumonde.sci and spybot suggested i may need help to eradicate it. The pc is behaving very strangely and is constantly trying to access the internet via internet explorer on its own??? also the e/drive keeps opening and closing on its own??? weird eh? Here is the hijack result, look forward to some help :0)

Welcome to Safer Networking, I wish to be sure you have viewed and understand this information.
"BEFORE you POST" (READ this Procedure before Requesting Assistance)
http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=288
All advice given is taken at your own risk.
Please make sure you have read this information so we are on the same page.

Make sure you read and follow the directions, anything else will slow the process and waste both of our time. I suggest you keep this computer offline except when troubleshooting, the junk may download more. If you have any tool I use, delete it and download it new from the link I provide. Read and follow the directions carefully, the tools will not work unless you do.
This can be a tough infection to remove so do not expect fast or easy.

A word of warning: Neither I nor sUBs are responsible for any damage you may have caused your machine by running ComboFix on your own. This tool is not a toy and not for everyday use.

2) Remove any old copies of combofix before you proceed.

Thanks to sUBs and anyone else who helped with this fix.

It is important that it is saved directly to your Desktop.

Download ComboFix from Here (http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe) to your Desktop

Double click combofix.exe and follow the prompts.
When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log and a HiJackthis log in your next reply

Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while its running. That may cause it to stall

Post the combofix log and a new HJT log.

Hi, firstly thanks for taking the time to assist me with this matter.

Now then when i started the pc up it wouldn't let me access the internet to download combofix. Connection interrupted box appeared saying The document contains no data.
I tried to do a virus scan with norton and it kept stalling and saying not responding, also i noticed norton is no longer in the tray.
Tried to run spybot but also not responding
RUNDLL Box appeared saying 'an exception occured while trying to run ''''c:\WINDOWS\System32\smwmxsbdukjzb.dll''''
Restarted but still couldnt get norton, spybot or internet to work.
Ran regcure and fixed 98 registry items and 21 file path references but still couldnt get anything to work even after another restart.

I'm now going to download combofix on my pc then save it to disc and apply it to the pc in question. I will re-install spybot and run that first before i run combofix then hopefully i will be able to connect to the internet to present the logs. I suspect its downloaded loads more viruses when i used it to post the thread.

Hi Phill

Re-installed spybot but still wont run?? Ran combofix but couldnt turn off norton first and also didnt add the recovery console as i didnt read the instructions properly (sorry). Anyway after the first run it allowed me to turn off norton so i also added the recovery console and then ran combofix again. I have included both reports in the order they were ran and a new hijack report.

Take your time, do not rush when working on your computer.

I am a little puzzled by the fact TeaTimer was not running in the first log and it is running now? Had it been running earlier, I would have posted instructions to disable it? We still have work to do so stick with me.

1) We need first to disable TeaTimer that it doesn't interfere with fixes. You can re-enable it when you're clean again:
* Run Spybot-S&D in Advanced Mode.
* If it is not already set to do this Go to the Mode menu select "Advanced Mode"
* On the left hand side, Click on Tools
* Then click on the Resident Icon in the List
* Uncheck "Resident TeaTimer" and OK any prompts.
* Restart your computer.
(leave TT disabled until we finish)

2) Download ResetTeaTimer.bat to the Desktop
http://downloads.subratam.org/ResetTeaTimer.bat
Double click ResetTeaTimer.bat
to remove all entries set by TeaTimer (and preventing TeaTimer to restore them upon reactivation).

3) Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune
http://www.atribune.org/public-beta/ATF-Cleaner.exe
Save it to your Desktop. We will use this later.

(Follow these directions carefully)

4) Open notepad and copy/paste the text in the codebox below into it:

File::
C:\WINDOWS\system32\CF8143.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\psioggufvnsazg.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\smwmxsbdukjzb.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\cwdrxhhypollnaiw.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\bdxwnxgywi.exe

Registry::
[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\~\Browser Helper Objects\{6794eb89-9874-cf61-327f-63f776b65a65}]

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\~\Browser Helper Objects\{f9cf937e-d491-1084-a9c1-89d04164aa91}]

Folder::
C:\Program Files\VnrBlock
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Trymedia

Save this as CFScript

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v666/sUBs/CFScriptB-4.gif

Referring to the picture above, drag CFScript into ComboFix.exe.

This will start ComboFix again. After reboot, (in case it asks to reboot), post the contents of Combofix.txt in your next reply together with a new HijackThis log. (wait until you finish to post the logs)

5) Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page = \blank.htm
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page =

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [VnrBlock20] "C:\Program Files\VnrBlock\VnrBlock20.exe"

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

6) Run ATF Cleaner
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Click Select All found at the bottom of the list.
Click the Empty Selected button.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

*Cleaning Prefetch may results in a few slow starts until the folder is repopulated:
http://www.windowsnetworking.com/articles_tutorials/Gaining-Speed-Empty-Prefetch-XP.html

7) Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your Desktop
http://www.besttechie.net/tools/mbam-setup.exe

* Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
* Be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
* If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
* Once the program has loaded, select Perform FULL SCAN, then click Scan.
* When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
* Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
* When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location. The log can also be opened by going to Start > All Programs > Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware > Logs > log-date.txt
* Please post the log from CFScript, the log from MBAM and a new HJT log.

How is the computer running now?

Thanks

Hi Phill
I followed the instructions very carefully but there was a slight problem with part 2, when i presses on the link i was unable to download resetteatimer.bat and was merely directed to some kind of log where there was no download facility. That said i skipped that part and went ahead with the other instructions. If its going to be a problem i can always repeat the whole process.
Here are the logs you requested, i wll let you know how its running this afternoon as i haven't rebooted yet and at the moment i have no desktop, i'm having to access everything via ctrl/alt/del.

Thanks for returning your information and the feedback, you said:

I followed the instructions very carefully but there was a slight problem with part 2,
That is just a simple batch file to clean the TeaTimer memory so we can remove junk from the HJT log. You must use Internet Explorer and sometimes you have to right click and choose "save target as" and then save it to the Desktop. When you run it, you can not see anything happen, does it in a flash. If there are no issues in the HJT log, we will not need it.

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = http://uk.red.clientapps.yahoo.com/c...rch.yahoo.com/
This is adware and yes, Yahoo is in bed with the enemy. Use HJT to remove it. If it will not remove, you will need to use ResetTeaTimer.bat to clear TT's memory.

The rest of the HJT log looks good:bigthumb: and since the computer is running better, let's move on.

Remove combofix from the computer like this:

Click START then RUN
Now type or copy Combofix /u in the runbox and click OK.
Note the space between the X and the U, it needs to be there.

http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z176/EPL47/CF_Cleanup.png

Clean any infected System Restore files like this:

Turn off System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Reboot

Turn ON System Restore,
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
UN-Check *Turn off System Restore*.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Give MBAM another run to be sure we got all of the junk, no need to post a clean scan result.

Update Symantec and scan your system to make sure it is running right and scanning clean. If you have any issues with the program, contect tech support for instructions:

Deleted the yahoo file as instructed. Managed to download the resetteatimer.bat file from my pc and ran it on the infected one as the infected one doesn't have internet explorer installed.
Followed all the other instructions, MBAM detected nothing. Symantec found nothing.

The pc is running well, although when i shut it down or reboot a message pops up saying ccSvcHost is not responding - with options to End Now or Cancel. A program was trying to access the internet too, it was called jusched but i blocked it as i don't know what its for.

Please post any error messages work for word, exactly as windows presents them to you.

ccSvcHost is not responding >> http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=ccSvcHost+is+not+responding+&btnG=Google+Search&aq=f&oq=

jusched >> http://www.liutilities.com/products/wintaskspro/processlibrary/jusched/

As soon as you get a request from the firewall like that, write down and google the items so you can set the firewall to allow valid items so you are not constantly messaged. Of course you want it to block malware, but not valid programs that need access like your antivirus program, etc.

Post that error message and I will see what I can find out.

Any other issues?

Thanks...Phil

The computer has started running very very slowly and i noticed a yellow shield in the tray earlier with a black exclamation mark inside it. It said downloading when i hovered over it but i couldn't click on it, its just re-appeared and now its saying

Updates are ready for your computer.
Click here to install these updates.

The access i blocked was for:
jusched
C\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0_07\bin\jusched.exe

Theres quite a lot of items in the firewall which im unsure about i will make a list and post it to you.

I found it easier to just remove everything from the firewall so it has to ask me again when something trys to connect.
So far its asked me if the one below could connect, i blocked it because i dont know what it is? Thats all the details i got - no filepath etc...

system
system

The yellow shield is asking me to download 'Windows XP Service Pack 3 (KB936929)' I haven't acted upon it yet.

Thanks for your patience with me i bet your beggining to think i'm a pain in the ass:laugh:

I told you that here:
http://www.liutilities.com/products/wintaskspro/processlibrary/jusched/

Updates are ready for your computer.
Click here to install these updates.
That is Windows critical updates asking to install and probably SP3 which is not installed yet on your computer. I suggest you install those updates (SP#3 is going to install by itself).
If you want to see what is there, click the icon in system tray then choose "Custom Install", You will then be shown if it is Service Park#3 and told if there are other updates and given to opportunity to install those and not SP#3 if you wish but sooner or later you will need to install it. If you have problems with SP#3
Microsoft has made free help available here:
Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 3 (All Languages)

Ok then, well thankyou very much for the time you have given me, i should be ok on my own from here, beginning to think i'm being overly cautious with it anyway - you may as well close the thread now.

Cheers Gina xxx
