As many might've already read, Google is about to release their "own" browser. Partly based on Webkit and Mozilla, but unclear to what extend.

This is just a notice that it's on the bug tracker as a new feature request (http://forums.spybot.info/project.php?issueid=281), and will be supported asap if possible (download is 99 minutes late already, Googles announcement for 6 p.m. GMT doesn't seem to hold ;) ) :)

Update: Chrome stores a lot in SQLite 3 databases, which should make things easy since we understand that format to support Firefox 3 already. Might be different table schemas and different files, but looks positive so far. As for the browser itself: all that talk about crash resistancy in the comic didn't help, heard and experienced full cpu usage complaints already ;)

It's out!
Chrome (http://www.google.com/chrome/)
Been using it for a day now and it is faster than Firefox at opening. You can read their storybook here
Storybook (http://blogoscoped.com/google-chrome/)

It doesn't rely on Gecko but on WebKit.
AppleWebKit/525.13 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/0.2.149.27 Safari/525.13

yep - Google Chrome Support = Support for all other browsers using Webkit engine

Im writing this with Google Crome, to be honest, I have experienced multiple crashes (which the different tab process thing didn't help, because it froze the whole pc ) but I like like minimalist design - If they patched up those bugs, solved a few annoyances (like, where's the 'add to dictionary' option?) and tracked me less...this could seriously become my primary browser.....

....until I realise how much I can't live without my precious FF add-ons! (Seriously, Crome could do with a bit of ad blocking!)

Anonymizing the Client ID from the config file: ChromeAnon.exe (http://www.spybotupdates.biz/files/ChromeAnon.exe).
More later, since it's a quick hack it's 1 MB, should become way less in a few hours.

As for Chrome upport = Support for all Webkit browsers: I don't think so
Webkit itself defines nothing, otherwise we would already have had something to re-use from Safari for Windows ;)

And yes, some way to block ads, including Google Ads, would've been nice :D:

I took Chrome for a test-drive and did not like it.
Off my PC it went in fairly short order.

Looks like we've found our ad blocking!

http://lifehacker.com/5046529/how-to-block-ads-in-google-chrome

The article describes how you can use Privoxy to block sites that are responsible for serving up ads. I have found it works quite well, and because you have to change your global internet configuration, it blocks ads in other browsers, not only Chrome. (this is useless in FF)

I haven't experienced any decrease in speed, but Privoxy does add a blue icon in your task bar (if you're crazy about that kind of thing! :p:)

For ad blocking through proxies, Proxomitron (http://www.proxomitron.info/) is always my favorite :)
Didnt use it for a long time because I am Adblock-spoiled probably and had forgotten about it ;)

Wasn;t there some major security flaw that was not fixed in google chrome that had to be swiftly fixed in apple's browser?

Auto-downlaoding certain files to the desktop? I think it was Java class files in this case.
Indeed kind of embarassing, one would think Google has the resources to let someone research which problems the only other "popular" WebKit based browser for Windows had ;) But then, it's a beta, and a beta test (at least a classical one with a bit less hype maybe) is there to find such things.

I've tested Portable Version of Google Chrome named Chromium.
It's same like Google Chrome but it's portable.
It looks nice and simple, but it only supports Windows XP SP2 and higher.
If there is no privacy implications and Google Updater, maybe the browser would by my favorite.
I will install Google Chrome when the Privacy Policy shows that my private data is not taken to Google or other companies.

To be honest now, I have moved straight back to FF for the main reason - add-ons (OT: Im currently loving 'Secure Login (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/4429)' add-on, the keyboard shortcuts to logins is a major time-saver). Also I actually find that Chrome is slower at loading heavy multimedia (and of course buggier since its a beta)

To go along with the minimal ui, I just installed a nice theme - Did the trick. No more Chrome-urges (but I haven't gone as far as uninstalling it though :p:)

Some pros and cons for Google Chrome from magazine:
Pros: Look, speed, good showing pages, functionality, simplicity, easy to use, almost available in all languages.
Cons: Privacy implications, installation only over internet connection, incomplete uninstallation, zoom, possible hangs, no 3rd party add-ons, other browsers are still somehow more useable for advanced/expert users.
Comment about the program: "Google is on a right way, but still needs to somehow loose with tracking of whole life."

This information was copied and translated from a magazine.
Note: This has been translated and there can be come confusion. The name of magazine has been removed just because of unexpected implications.

Finally got my ad blocking!

http://img516.imageshack.us/img516/6513/adsweeprk0.png

Lifehacker Story: AdSweep Blocks Ads in Google Chrome and Opera (http://lifehacker.com/5140947/adsweep-blocks-ads-in-google-chrome-and-opera)

It doesn't get rid as many ads as the Ad-block Plus extension for Firefox, but it does work.

Since I had the latest 2.0 alpha I had to create a 'User Scripts' folder in:

Vista
Google Chrome: C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default

Windows XP
Google Chrome: C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default

Then, extract the 'AdSweep.js' file after downloading it from the AdSweep site (http://www.adsweep.org/) and rename it to 'AdSweep.user.js'. Stick it in the newly created 'User Scripts' folder, and add the --enable-user-scripts to Chrome's shortcut target properties.

Adsweep Discontinued

Just got this message from Charles:

Hello,

Due to lack of time, lack of technical support, and despite repeated requests with no feedback, I sadly had to discontinue the AdSweep project. You can still download it and tweak the source code to your needs if you know how to do so. I will no longer remove ads on demand. Thanks to those who have helped me.

Charles.

Such a shame - would have helped if I knew css (I did however offer to mow his lawn)
