hi Shootwice,

ok good. lets get this exe checked out.
to help show all files you can do this:

FOr XP: on the desktop double click my computer,at the top click on> tools>folder options>view> then select "show hidden files and folders", then UNcheck "hide protected operating system files " also UNcheck "hide extensions for known file types" click apply to all folders, apply then ok

next: navigate to either-> Local Disk (C) C:/windows and C:/windows/system32
see if you can spot: KNFFMWFA.exe in either of those locations.

if so, you can go to the website below and browse for the .exe again and upload it to the website using the send button. it will scan it. You can copy/paste the scan results in your reply.

shelf life, I did not find it in either location. I hope that means I am back to normal. Can I assume that my Norton is not as good as my old Panda protection? Thanks for all your help. Bill

Norton is not as good as my old Panda protection
iam sure you would get plenty of opinions on that. your best protection is yourself, know a little about how one gets malware and you will be ahead of the rest. keep malwarebytes and it always good practice to keep it up to date even if you dont scan with it. ones scanning frequency is really a function of your habits.

if all is good on your end other wise(pending the last hjt log) you can update your java version:

java:

Vulnerabilities/exploits in versions of Sun Java may be responsible for some malware installs via your browser.

It is important to keep Sun Java up to date and also to remove older versions.

* 1. Uninstall old versions of Sun Java via Add/Remove Programs.
* 2. Click the Remove or Change/Remove button
* 3. Reboot your PC if prompted.

to check if you have the latest version of Java and to download the latest version:

My Top Ten List
The Short Version:

1) Keep your OS, (Windows) browser (IE, FireFox) and other software up to date.
2) Know what you are installing to your computer. Alot of software can come bundled with unwanted add-ons. Do you trust the source?
3) Install, keep updated: one antivirus and two or three anti-malware applications.
4) Refrain from clicking on links or installing files you receive via E-Mail, IM, Chat Rooms or Social Sites, no matter how tempting or legitimate the message may be.
5) Don't click on ads/pop ups or offers from websites to install software to your computer.
6) Don't click on offers to "scan" your computer.
7) Set up and use limited accounts rather than administrator accounts.
8) Install and understand the limitations of a third party software firewall.
9) Consider using an alternate browser and E-mail client.
10) If your habits include visiting or downloading/installing files from: warez, crack sites or p2p (file sharing) networks: then you are much more likely to encounter malicious code. Do you trust the source?
