View Full Version : Second scan not detecting threats after reboot

I was having problems with my computer, and a virus scan found a few viruses and removed them. I then ran Spybot, not having run it for a while, and immediately downloaded the update.

Instead of rebooting as it requested, I immediately ran a scan, and it found Win32.Brontok, CoolWWWSearch.hjg, Hupigon13, Taxex.FTP.RegScan, Win32.Agent.* (multiple), Win32.Autorun* (multiple). Before trying to fix them, I rebooted the machine. But the second run did not detect anything but cookies!

How do I convince Spybot to redetect these still existing threats?

Thanks.

scanning in safe mode? Not only scan with spybot, scan with your antivirus program and other antispyware programs you may have. :) Let us know how it goes. ;)

Yes, scanning in Safe Mode was the next thing I did, where it didn't detect anything but cookies, so I'm now scanning a third time in normal boot, and it still hasn't detected any. One of these little infestations has crippled my virus scanner (Norton) as it will only scan about 5000 files on a full scan instead of the normal amount.

I appreciate your quick reply.

First, I think you might want to visit the malware removal forums (http://forums.spybot.info/forumdisplay.php?f=22) and get your system cleaned and/or looked at. The reason i am telling you to do this is because you stated you are infected. If normal scans of antivirus and other antispyware software still does not detect the threat(s) or remove them, (which you said you tried that) post in the malware removal forums (http://forums.spybot.info/forumdisplay.php?f=22). Before you post there, (if you decide to post there) follow these directions. (http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=288)

Let me know what you decide to do :)
