I need to stop all kinds of rubbish loading up at boot. I'm new to Vista. msconfig in used to be the place in xp and of course Spybot's advance section on start up items.
What's the best way to go please.
My laptop only has 1GB ram. It would be nice if they gave you a choice of desktops, so you could say - run at the old xp level.

Any advice greatly appreciated.
thanks

You can try using Spybot's startup management. Since I do not know much about Vista, I cannot help you any further. However, many Vista users changed back to XP because Vista is too complicated for them and do not have much functions as XP, like msconfig.

Hi caf4926,

Vista does have the 'msconfig' function - Just type in 'msconfig' in the start menu search box (or through the usual run dialogue)

It would be nice if they gave you a choice of desktops, so you could say - run at the old xp level.

Vista also allows you to do this:
Right click on your desktop and choose 'Personalise'
Click on 'Window colour and appearance'
Choose a theme

Scale of resource hungriness (most ---> least) :p:

It is recommended that you have at least 2GB of RAM to run Vista smoothly.
