A week ago my xp pro OS PC1 was working okay (a little slower than it used to). And then, an update SP3 auto-loaded and also about then McAfee picked up virtumonde comming in. A following run of spybot (about a 6 hour run) listed virtumonde.dll, fraud.pchealth and Zob.loader. Spybot may have removed all but virtumonde as this trojan still showed up in the next spybot run. McAfee scan (12 + hours later) also picked up virtumonde and quaranteed the files.
I think I have fought the good fight, but am losing badly. I can get the PC to load the desktop, sometimes after 4-5 tries, but when it loads it runs very slow or freezes (including the clock and I can not open application/ processes/ performance window-ctlr+alt+delete). A spybot run (after several restarts) takes more than a 12 hour run to complete (280,000 objects).
I have not been able to get an internet connection with firefox or explorer - both froze the system. I have problems getting safe mode to open either with or without the internet connection. I have HJT on a memory drive, but as I write this on my 2nd PC (xp-home sp3) I have not been able to get the safemode or normal desktop to open and/or run anything.
Do I shoot the PC1, myself, or what do I do to get out of this jam I am in?

I finally was able to get HJT off of memory stick and the report back to PC1.
