View Full Version : Need Help with Virtumonde.dll Removal

I ran Spybot Search and Destroy and it detected some malware. It removed almost all of it, but there was one, virtumonde.dll, which it could not remove and which it asked to restart in order to scan/remove successfully.

I restarted my computer in both normal mode and safe mode to try and clean it. I ran a Spybot scan in safe mode and it could not remove virtumonde.dll, and even though Spybot automatically ran just before Windows fully appeared in normal mode, Spybot S&D kept detecting virtumonde.dll and asked to restart to remove it.

I did a little research on Virtumonde (like at Wikipedia) and I can see how it is difficult to remove. Also, I looked into the file which Spybot could not remove, and it is labeled "tuvVMcba.dll" in the system32 folder.

I have also used Grisoft's Anti-Virus Guard (AVG) while in safe mode to no effect (though it did clean up a virus which probably started this).

I am currently posting on a separate, clean computer because I'm afraid Virtumonde might do some nasty things if I try the Internet on my infected computer.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! This should be everything I know.

***UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE***

***PLEASE IGNORE THIS REQUEST FOR HELP!***

I have decided to reformat my computer to fix the problem (plus my computer could have used a reformat anyway). Fortunately, before getting the malware/virus, I had backed up tons of my information, so this was not a big issue.

I have successfully reformatted my computer, deleting all previous info. from both hard drives and Spybot has not picked up any threats since the reformat.

Thank you for your consideration, but my problem is resolved. Please close this thread.
