I had some viruses and malware on my computer recently I had thought that I got it all cleaned but then I had a problem updating to microsoft service pack 3 and the error said that I had spooldr.sys virus. So I downloaded and or ran Malwarebytes, Spyware Doctor, Superanti Spyware, and Spybot S & D. until they all came up clean I am not having any popups or signs of slowing from a virus but I still have a problem installing SP 3. I was wondering if there was more malware hiding or maybe something I missed.

Do NOT run 'FIXES' before helpers have analyzed the HJT log

Since much of the malware anymore is hidden from HJT, all I could do is run more programs like combofix but MBAM is one I would run and the others are good programs also. I have had issues with Spyware Doctor finding stuff that was not there to goad a purchase, so I stopped suggesting it.

I'll mention briefly that I had an issue the first time I tried to install SP3 on this computer, my other computer installed with no issues. The reason was not malware so I purchased the CD but had not gotten around to installing it yet. There is also help with SP3 issues online.

Let's do a little cleaning and see if that helps.

1) C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_11\ <<< Java needs to be updated, see this:

2) Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune
http://www.atribune.org/public-beta/ATF-Cleaner.exe
Save it to your Desktop. We will use this later.

3) Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

4) Run ATF Cleaner
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Click Select All found at the bottom of the list.
Click the Empty Selected button.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

If you would like to update MBAM for another check, here are the directions I post. There is no need to post a clean scan result.

5) Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your Desktop

* Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
* Be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
* If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
* Once the program has loaded, select Perform FULL SCAN, then click Scan.
* When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
* Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
* When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location. The log can also be opened by going to Start > All Programs > Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware > Logs > log-date.txt
* Please post contents of that file & a new HJT log in your next reply.
