Hi, this Sunday night my Vista Premium went on the fritz and I have been pulling my hair out searching for solutions, and these forums seem to be the best I have found for that, so here is whats going on.
System Specs:
eMachines
AMD Athlon 64x2 dual core processor 4200+
Vista Home Premium edition ( came pre installed with a recovery drive)
2 GB ram ddr2
graphics drivers:
onboard: NVidia GeForce 6100 nForce 405
PCI express video card: Visiontek ATI Radeon HD2600 pro
the errors:
upon logging in, in order, these error boxes begin to pop up:
1. dwm.exe - entry point not found
The procedure entry point SLIsGenuineLocal could not be located in the dynamic link library SLWGA.dll
(display windows manager then stops working, and does this up to 3 times)
(also after this sometimes explorer stops working, but that has only happened twice)
1a. during this a dos box pops up empty twice first time at the top it says ntvdm.exe, the second one says nmapp.exe
2. ActiveMovie Window: msnmsgr.exe - Bad Image
C:\Windows\System32\d3d8thk.dll is either not designed to run on windows or it contains an error. Try installing the program again using the original installation media or contact your system administrator or the software vendor for support.
3. MMLoadDrv: MMLoadDRV.exe - Bad Image
same error text as above
4.CRTC Media Controller: msnmsgr.exe - Bad Image
same error text as above
5. this doesn't happen everytime but sometimes i have gotten a prompt saying my antivirus has been disabled because the clock wasnt set (or something like that)
5a. Incompatable Display Adaptor on the system has been disabled because its driver is not compatable with the driver for the vga adaptor
once my system is fully booted i have noticed these additional problems:
1. Aero has been disabled and cannot be found in the personalize options.
2. my pictures are not viewable:
Error loading c:\program files\windows photo gallery\photoviewer.dll is not a valid win32 application
3. my videos will not work with WMP even tho audio, CD's, and DVD's will
4. movie maker ( i been making movies alot the past 2 weeks)
will not open (d3d8thk.dll error msg) moviemaker.exe -Bad Image
5. some games that require a CD or DVD will work, however EVE online will not : exe.exe Bad Image.
6. when i go to control panel>system> the page fails to load.
Actions Taken so far:
ZoneAlarm AV suite 2008 (full system scan)- nothing
TCP/IP optimizer
Malwarebytes (full system scan) - nothing
sfc /scannow ran through all the way but did not fix anything.
Spybot - nothing but cookies ( in regular and safe mode)
NOTE: safe mode does NOT start up with any errors
Adware 2008: REDV came up
uninstalled ATI and geforce drivers ( to the best of my ability) and reinstalled the latest drivers- nothing
windows defender- nothing
system restore DID NOT work in safe mode, but did work in regular mode - nothing
Vista boot dvd- repair mode: if you have a camera or music device recently added to your system please unplug and try again or contact administrators
F8 recovery vista repair mode: same message NOTE: all usbs and devices were unplugged when this came up.
checked the BIOS for the clock problem and nothing showed up
device manager: noticed exclamations on the 6t04 adapter and the display adapter and the NVidia driver, which i disabled both.
