how do I get my Display settings back

I have used Search and distroy to get rid of the Antivirus 2008 xp. However, now I am unable to change my display settings. I am not able to assign a screen saver or change the backgound. the background with the Antivirus warning is still there but non of the pop ups are there and it seems no other adverse affects from the spyware are present.

Is there something I can do to restore my display settings? When I go to the properties on the display the options to change the screen saver and background are not there.
