Hello,

Thanks for reporting.
We had several users reporting this issue.
This is really a bad e-mail scam as the site it refers to is using our TRADEMARK name. We will inform our lawyer about this.

Best regards

Hi Guys,

I also received the email today, and NO i didn't download anything because i realised the website is NOT http://www.spybot.com but instead
http:/ /67.214.168.130/spybot/index.asp?aff=001&camp=spybot_esp&kbid=1587&sub=spybot_esp

Please be careful.

Thanks!!

Yes I received a couple of those Spybot 2009 mails and was almost taken in. I am afraid a lot of people will be caught out. This could damage the Spybot brand and lead to people being distrustful of Spybot.

Here's the spurious message:

This scam email does all sorts of PDf, Windows, firewall, open office, java, adobe updates, and once you link to their site they verify you email addi. It is not just Spybot, yet I am sure even connecting to the address will surely download other exploits in windows. I am not to aware as to how report this but this addi is who I came to reply to this thread.

Would it be safe to click on the link to stop receiving these emails?

I have received 3 so far ("antivirus update", "Spybot protection", & "Suite 2009").

Thanks for posting this thread...it was the only thing I could find about this "site"!!

Hello,

I would not click anywhere.
Just set your spam filter higher.

Adding a note because I know people often fall victim to this ruse.

Everyone, never click unsubscribe links in spam messages, doing so will serve to confirm to the spammer that your email is working and ready to receive more of the same. If the spammer sold the list confirming active accounts there would be even more headed your way.

Best regards.

I just got a friend who got an e-mail recommending him to upgrade to spybot 2009 with this link:
http:// 2009--access.com/Spybot/2/index.asp?aff=001&camp=spybot_espd&kbid=1587&sub=spybot

i told him it was an obvious phishing scam because it wasn't the official Spybot site... then i had to reason him into making him believe that spybot never used a yearly release and that he should never follow links that comes from e-mails like that... then i figured out that it was his chain e-mails that he's participating that got him there... and reasoned with him that he never had to give his e-mail to download the program in the first place, so if you don't give your e-mail to anyone you know, nobody you know will e-mail you... basics... so spybot can't e-mail me if it doesn't know my e-mail... so only fake e-mails that say that they are spybot can get in my inbox...

Sad story, true story...

I received the same email as well. I went to the search engine to research this site & found this forum. Glad I did. It's good to know this community is here.
