• Welcome Guest, to the Spybot Forums! It's 2025, and we just upgraded our forum software.

Today is Safer Internet Day, and with our new forum, you can finally use passkeys to login. That was about time!

Of course, you could ask if a forum is still useful, with so many social media networks out there where you might already have an account, and met a lot of users. You can now use your login from some of those networks to log in here. And by posting here, your question and data is stored on our servers and not automatically shared with a whole social media network.

We'll also start using the forum for small bits of information, announcements and more again.

When opening a resident PDF file on my computer with a double click SB does a scan. Similar threads discuss what to do with window 98 but I am using 2000 and am only confused by the fix. tks,

Hello,

The problem is most likely caused because the right click context menu feature "Scan using Spybot-Search & Destroy" is the first item in the context menu list. The context menu feature is an option during installation which is checked by default. Once installed there is no option within Spybot to uninstall it.

To disable the "Scan using Spybot-Search&Destroy" feature in Spybot 1.6, see this post: http://forums.spybot.info/showpost.php?p=210998&postcount=9

If you would like the feature still installed, try disable and then re-enable it and see of that puts the "Scan using Spybot-Search & Destroy" option below the open. If that does not work, try to uninstall and reinstall Spybot. That worked for a user in this thread:

To disable the single files scan please open the registry editor by:
(a)
press windowskey + r then enter "regedit" (without quotation marks)
or
(b)
click on "start" , then "run" and enter "regedit" (without quotation marks)

(a+b)
and then browse to the following path.

Please delete the following registry keys:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\*\shell\sdfiles
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Folder\shell\sdfiles

Best regards

Those lines aren't there.

I went in to delete the two lines and neither of them exist. Should I just reinstall?

golfer1:

Those registry entries should be there.

No need to reinstall.

To fix the problem and still keep the "Scan using Spybot-Search&Destroy" option in the right click context menu try this suggestion posted today by matt Humphreys in:
If you would like to eliminate the "Scan using Spybot-Search&Destroy" right click context menu option, see this post by Zer0 Voltage in:
