Hi Phil,
Thanks for your reply and your help. Appreciate it.
I have run the Spybot S&D, and it ran clean, no threats detected. I also did the Immunize.
Next, I downloaded and ran HJT in Safe mode. Here is the log file. I had already removed the bitlord.exe yesterday by Uninstall.

Thanks for returning your information and the feedback. You have been hacked by Ukrainians, see this:
85.255.112.148 <<< http://whois.domaintools.com/85.255.112.148
Let's proceed like this, read and follow the directions carefully and in the numbered order.
1) Post all logs in Normal Mode unless I request otherwise.
2) TeaTimer IS NOT running, do not enable it while we are working together.
3) Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune
http://www.atribune.org/public-beta/ATF-Cleaner.exe
Save it to your Desktop. We will use this later.
4) Thanks to LonnyBJones and anyone else who helped with this fix.
Please download FixWareout from one of these sites:
http://downloads.subratam.org/Fixwareout.exe
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/files/lonny/Fixwareout.exe
Save it to your desktop and run it. Click Next, then Install, make sure "Run fixit" is checked and click Finish.
The fix will begin; follow the prompts.
You will be asked to reboot your computer; please do so.
Your system may take longer than usual to load; this is normal.
Once the desktop loads post the text that will open (report.txt) and a new Hijackthis log in the forum please.
(wait until you are finished to post logs and reports)
5) Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:
R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = file:///C:/Documents%20and%20Settings/Vinai%20Prakash/My%20Documents/1Web/mylinks.html
(this item is damaged, install it again when we are finished if you use it)

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"
6) Run ATF Cleaner
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Click Select All found at the bottom of the list.
Click the Empty Selected button.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.
*Cleaning Prefetch may results in a few slow starts until the folder is repopulated:
http://www.windowsnetworking.com/articles_tutorials/Gaining-Speed-Empty-Prefetch-XP.html
7) Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your Desktop
http://www.besttechie.net/tools/mbam-setup.exe
* Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
* Be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
* If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
* Once the program has loaded, select Perform FULL SCAN, then click Scan.
* When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
* Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
* When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location. The log can also be opened by going to Start > All Programs > Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware > Logs > log-date.txt
* Please post the report from Fixwareout, the log from MBAM, a new HJT log, and some feedback from you. How is the computer running now?
Thanks...Phil
Hi Phil,
Thanks a lot for your help, support and detailed instructions.
Here's what I have done
1. Ran fixwareout. It prompted that the program had been setup to run on startup. Please wait for next step. I waited for about 8 hours, but nothing came up. It seemed the PC had hung or something. So I hard rebooted the PC.
2. When it booted, the program ran on its own, and the fixwareout report is attached.
3. Then I ran the scan of HJT, and cheked the entries you suggested, and clicked on Fix Checked.
4. Next I ran ATF cleaner, and completed it.
5. Then I downloaded MBAM, got it to update. And it is still running... While running, my notebook got locked after a period of inactivity. Once I keyed in the password, I can see the MBAM window, but it is blank. The hard drive seems to be running, but nothing moving.
6. Rebooted my PC and tried to run MBAM atleast 3 times. It hangs ( program not responding) after about 20-30 minutes of activity, and blank screen.
7. finally, I aborted it, and ran the HijackThis logs once, and it is attached here.
8. Please review and let me know if I still need to do anything. Meanwhile, I will start to use my notebook, and in the next few hours, will post again to update you with my finding on how is it running now.
Again, Thanks a lot for your help.
Regards,
vinai

Hello Vinai, unusual for an issue to occur with MBAM, since it is freeware, it is probably the most used malware program right now and I rarely have issue. Let's see what the HJT log looks like now.
Scheduled for removal, I see these, don't know if you missed them or not:
O2 - BHO: Adobe PDF Reader Link Helper - {06849E9F-C8D7-4D59-B87D-784B7D6BE0B3} - C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Acrobat\ActiveX\AcroIEHelper.dll (file missing)
This is a valid BHO but because a file is missing, it is either not working right or at all. I suggest you remove it with HJT and reinstall it if you use it.
O20 - Winlogon Notify: AWinNotifyVitaKey MC3000 - C:\WINDOWS\ <<< this item should be dead since no file is showing. It looks like it was this:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Acer\Acer Bio Protection\WinNotify.dll
If you tried to remove those items it may be TeaTimer in Spybot S&D keeping them there, have you used TeaTimer?
Did you try to remove the items? Sometimes folks will see valid names a skip them out of concern...let me know.
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [PLFSet] rundll32.exe C:\WINDOWS\PLFSet.dll,PLFDefSetting
I am not sure what thiis is, do you know? Here is the Google:
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=PLFSet.dll&btnG=Search
If you don't know it, please show hidden files and folders:
http://www.xtra.co.nz/help/0,,4155-1916458,00.html
Then scan the file: C:\WINDOWS\PLFSet.dll <<< this one
at one or more of these free online scans to find out.
http://virusscan.jotti.org/
http://www.kaspersky.com/scanforvirus
http://www.virustotal.com/
Post those results.
Since we could not run MBAM, I will wait for feedback from you about performance before deciding what to do next.
Thanks...Phil
Hi Phil,
the PLFSet.dll seems clean by running Jotti & Kaspersky.
I have not received new popups after I did the cleanup yesterday.
On Internet Explorer, I can't access the Internet Options - It says that the operation is cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact the system administrator.
Finally, I was able to run MBAM, and here is the log. I cleaned it up also.

In the first post you had mentioned that Tea Timer is not running. Is there anything I need ot do to enable it or download it again? What does tea timer do? I have setup a scheduled task to run SD Spybot every day at 6pm. It has been running clean without reporting anytihng, even as I update it regularly.
Please let me know what else I need to do.
Thanks a lot.

Do you have these issues when you run Firefox?
If this is not the exact error message, post error messages exactly, word for word as Windows presents them to you.
Registry Data Items Infected:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Control Panel\Homepage (Hijack.Homepage) -> Bad: (1) Good: (0) -> No action taken.
Why did you choose: -> No action taken?
Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
Did you try to remove the items? Sometimes folks will see valid names a skip them out of concern...let me know.

Hi,
Thanks for your help.

Yes, this is my own personal computer. It is not behind any firewall. prior to teh virus attack, I was able to edit the Internet Options, setup a home page, and clear cookies, etc. on my own. The error message listed on the microsoft site is exactly the one I am encountering.
Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
- Done This. Ran a second check, and nothing else came up.
Did you try to remove the items? Sometimes folks will see valid names a skip them out of concern...let me know.
- Yes, I had removed these applications some time back. I don't miss them.
Apart from the IE not allowing me to access internet options, I don't see anything else wrong. Seems like the Ukranians are gone after following your kind advice.
Thanks a lot for your help and support.

If it is ok with you I would like to look at your uninstall list:
Open Hijackthis.
Click the "Open the Misc Tools" section Button.
Click the "Open Uninstall Manager" Button.
Click the "Save list..." Button.
Save it to your desktop. Copy and paste the contents into your reply.
(You may edit out Microsoft, Hotfixes, Security Update for Windows XP,
Update for Windows XP and Windows XP Hotfix to shorten the list)
and a new HJT log.
