Cannot turn on Windows Autmatic Update

I am not able to turn on my Windows automatic updates. I am also getting aton of crazy pop-ups that I cannoget rid of. Spybot S&D got rid of a bunch of items, but I am still having problems. The most frequent pop-up I am getting is "VirusRemover 2008". My system is running VERY slowly an is even shutting down slowly. Here is my Hijack This log:
