Hi. Just joined and had spybot recommended to me. ran a check and found 33 trojans/malware items. all removed except this one. Spybot says I should ask here as to how to remove it. I run Firefox as my browser, but I notice that IE starts up a new session every 5 mins there abouts. Are the two things related? apart from that I have no problems.:)

Save HJTInstall.exe to your desktop.
Doubleclick on the HJTInstall.exe icon on your desktop.
By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis .
Click on Install.
It will create a HijackThis icon on the desktop.
Once installed, it will launch Hijackthis.
Click on the Do a system scan and save a logfile button. It will scan and the log should open in notepad.
Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply.
DO NOT use the AnalyseThis button, its findings are dangerous if misinterpreted.
DO NOT have Hijackthis fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.
P.S. for some reason or another I get a blank IE page up every time I go to a new page under Firefox. To get here took me three steps. I have three IE pages (all blank)

Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools
Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.
As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.
Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.
**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.

Is that everything in combofix.txt?
yes that was all that came out of the file. I assume that there should have been a lot more? Do you want me to try again?

retried running app. same result. made sure that I had no other apps loading up during startup.
Please then run it in safe mode and let me know how it went :)
