Good day everyone,

I'm pretty new to this forum but the guys seem really helpful here so i thought I'll request some help over here. I am pretty new to internet security and the dangers of trojans, only recently my friends advised me to download anti virus software to boost my protection. I have downloaded a few as i dont really know which is reliable and several trojans did come up when i scanned my computer. I panicked and immediately quarantined and deleted the trojans. After this incident I immediately uninstalled any P2P software and stopped all dubious downloads.

However, I have still experienced ongoing problems with my computer, such as extremely slow loading of the desktop during startup and being logged out of msn randomly without reason. Hence I am worried that there may still be some hidden trojans on my computer. I recently read about remote access trojans which have really worried me as i often have webcam conversations with my girlfriend, and it gives me the creeps knowing some pervert may be oogling at her at that very instant.

I have several questions listed below, which i hope would be answered so as to give me a piece of mind. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

1) I downloaded AVG free, A squared and trojan hunter antivirus software. Are these three legitimate software?

2) AVG detected these various trojans... are any of them malicious/remote access trojans? What were their effects?

3) I have attached the HijackThis log as requested in the sticky. Could someone advise me on whether my computer is still compromised?

Welcome to Safer Networking, I wish to be sure you have viewed and understand this information.
"BEFORE you POST" (READ this Procedure before Requesting Assistance)
http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=288
All advice given is taken at your own risk.
Please make sure you have read this information so we are on the same page.

I will see if I can help, but you have some issues you have caused yourself, perhaps by listening to bad advice, and you also have this:
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [MSFox] C:\DOCUME~1\sgarhmh\LOCALS~1\Temp\a.exe
and I am not real sure what it is, see the Google:
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=a.exe&btnG=Google+Search&aq=f&oq=

I need to ask if this is a personal computer, if it belongs to a company, post to let me know and DO NOT PROCEED past this point.

Note:
When the infected computer in question is a company machine in the workplace, and you are an employee.
The intention of this forum is not to replace a company's IT department, nor can we anticipate alterations or configurations that may have been made to a business machine, or how it will interact with the tools commonly used in the removal of malware.
More than one machine could be at stake, possibly even the server. If sensitive material has been compromised by an infection, the company could be held liable.
To prevent any possible loss or corruption of company information, please inform your IT department or Supervisor when a workplace computer has been infected, immediately.
Thanks for your understanding.

If it is not a corporate or company computer:

We will start with this information, you read it:
You are running two antivirus programs at the same time and this is not a good thing. They conflict with each other and you will be less safe than if you ran one good program and maintained it properly.
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/nav.nsf/docid/2000031316555206
"Microsoft recommends that you have only one anti-virus program installed on your computer."

http://www.smartcomputing.com/editorial/article.asp?article=articles/2003/s1407/38s07/38s07.asp

I personally run AVG 8 free but both are good freeware programs, uninstall all but one antivirus program.
Avira\AntiVir PersonalEdition Classic and AVG8

C:\Program Files\a-squared Free\ <<< if you did not purchase this, uninstall it. It is a good program, but not needed.

C:\Program Files\Sophos\Remote Management System\ <<< what is this? Does it have anything to do with antivirus? (Sophos) What is it used for?

C:\Program Files\LimeWire\ <<< uninstall this p2p program if you have not already done so.

Once the above is done and you are running only one antivirus program, then restart the computer and post.

1) Uninstall list:
Open Hijackthis.
Click the "Open the Misc Tools" section Button.
Click the "Open Uninstall Manager" Button.
Click the "Save list..." Button.
Save it to your desktop. Copy and paste the contents into your reply.
(You may edit out Microsoft, Hotfixes, Security Update for Windows XP,
Update for Windows XP and Windows XP Hotfix to shorten the list)

2) A new HJT log.

Thanks
