dont see anything to be concerned about in the hjt log. is malwarerbytes and spybot coming up clean after a scan?

Spybot still shows an instance of vario.antivirus that can not be removed. I have scanned several times in safe mode and malwarebytes comes up clean. Is there anything else I can post to help you out?

you have the latest updates for spybot?
can you post the item it is finding. there is a way to get a copy, i think if after a scan you right click on the item its finding-- there is a option to copy it to text. just need the one item not the entire report. cant check my copy, in linux now.
what about anything else, do you have other signs of malware like pop ups or page redirects etc?

I forgot to answer your question - the machine is running slow, no real noticable pop-ups but my active background keeps getting turned off and the time is registering in military time. I will reset it and when we shut off and start the computer again it will be a blue background and the military time again.

thanks for the info. sounds simple enough, have a look in your drive C: and see if you can spot a folder named:
avsystemcare

right click on start>explore>in the left pane click on Local disk C: on right side look for the folder (avsystemcare)
if found delete the folder.

we will save the rest for last, may not be related to malware
