We're here to help. :santa:
A corrupted setup file, means that there's something wrong with the file itself, in simple terms. Like there's bad data or something that's missing.

Please download a fresh copy of Spybot-Search&Destroy from SaferNetworking Severs:

Good luck.

Good luck.

I'm not much of a computer geek either. So let me nag here too.
I followed the link you gave and downloaded the Spybot160 as well as "reset settings" and "miniremoval of SmartKiller". And still no respond from trying to run the programm. Spent all day trying to install and uninstall Spybot S&D in different configurations. Looked into forums, tutorials. And found no solution for my problem.

When the programm is just installed the resident icon on the tray apears which lets me at least look into its' tools (that's the farthest I can go with the Spybot). But after about 3 minutes the resident icon dissapears from the tray forever (!) :fear:

When I doubleclick on the Spybot's icon there is a glimpse of hourglass for second and that's it. nothing ever happens.

And, of course, I've got that red circle with the cross, being all infected and stuff...

Pet, you'll have to start your own thread in the Malware Removal Forums. Obviously you are infected. Instructions are below.

Spybot160 as well as "reset settings" and "miniremoval of SmartKiller".
I'm having trouble understand what you are talking about. Please clarify.

Unfortunately, some malware disable the execution of anti-spyware programs... What you'll have to do is rename the Spybot desktop icon to another name. You'll have to rename it. For example rename it to "Spybot-SD".

Thanks Drragostea for your help for I was finally able to install Spybot. What a relief to finally have it and scan. No bugs just tracking cookies were found. Yesterday, I thought of checking for updates and clicked on the desktop icon, however, Spybot would not open. I could hear the computer trying to do something, saw the hourglass making efforts to open but nothing. I have Avast installed and am wondering if that's the problem.

Hrm, that sounds odd. bigreddog, what I can tell you is that there is no conflict between avast! and Spybot, so we can eliminate that.

Were you loading something else when you tried to execute Spybot? RAM?
There's a long list of variables... : P

What matters is that is Spybot-Search&Destroy able to start up?
Also what Operating System are you running (might not help the problem, just asking)?

Hey, great to hear from you.... My home computer has Windows 2000 has its operating system. I uninstalled Spybot yesterday and re-installed it but now have setup problems. Yikes.....so much going on....and I love Spybot for what it does and especially folks like you so ready to help. Thank you for your help, Drragostea :) Please tell me what to do.....I do not mind starting from scratch.

Sorry for the late response bigreddog... I didn't see the updated post.

You'll have to start your thread in the Malware Removal Forums. I didn't see that you mentioned you had a red cross in your taskbar (a malware infection unfortuneately ).

To run Spybot-Search&Destroy, you'll have to rename your Spybot desktop button to something else like "Spybot-SD'.
