Sorry to bother you but, ever since returning home, when I switch my computer on I have balloons popping up telling me I am possibly infected with different spyware and worms etc. and telling me to click on the balloon to fix it!
Alternatively internet explorer launches itself and an antivirus scan starts happening all on its own and I have to repeatedly click close before it will do so, then I am left with these balloons which pop up in the front of my screen and go on doing so however many times I click them....!
The current one says the following:

Internet Connection speed decreased by: 39%
Probably reason Spyware applications/Adware popup windows.

I have tried to stop this happening but if I click on the smaller balloons several times they disappear for a while and then either return unprompted or Internet Explorer opens itself and goes to an Antivirus site for the scan and then trying to sell to me!
Is there anything I can or should do please......?
Please note (as you will probably already be aware) I am a real novice when it comes to the technical side of computers or programming etc. So, for instance, would not have a clue how to obtain the "reports" others seem to have mentioned in their questions - sorry!
Also disabled so typing is very slow for me too..... Thank you to anyone who can help.
I have downloaded Spybot, but after scanning several times and checking that I was fully updated, the problem still exists. I would so like to know who/why people do this and invade their computers and privacy - but that's just letting of steam......

That said, All advice given by anyone volunteering here, is taken at own risk.
While best efforts are made to assist in removing infections safely, unexpected stuff can happen. It is advisable that you back up your personal data before starting any clean up procedure.
Download Trendmicros Hijackthis (http://www.trendsecure.com/portal/en-US/_download/HJTInstall.exe) to your desktop.
Double click it to install
Follow the prompts and by default it will install in C:\Program Files\Trendmicro\Hijackthis\Highjackthis.exe
Open HJT Scan and Save a Log File, it will open in Notepad
Go to Format and make sure Wordwrap is Unchecked
Go to Edit> Select All.....Edit > Copy and Paste the new log into this thread by using the Post Reply and not start a New Thread.
DO NOT have HijackThis fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

response to Ken545 - I do hope I am replying in the write way and/or format?
I have read the "Read before you post" . In that paragraph you say it is advisable to back up your personal data before starting any clean up procedure.
I can fully see why this is a good step, and I have an external hard drive "G" that I use to back up all my files/photos etc.
However, I have been scared to back up at the moment because I was scared that the "infection" that I have would be spread into my external hard drive and then it would all be infected again when I went to retrieve my files.
Am I being a complete idiot - or should I just have to accept that possibly whatever was NOT saved between last save and infection occuring, might be lost for ever??

OK, but if that is the case why did I need to download it and what should I do with it for the future please - sorry I did say I was a complete novice!, but thank you for your patience.
What I would do is to just back up any documents that you do not want to lose along with any photos, we can scan your external drive later.
When you install Hijackthis, what I am saying is that most or all of the entries it shows will be legit , any malware will show up on that log also so don't remove anything until I see it. so follow the instructions and run it to Scan and Save a log file and then just post the log into this thread for me to see. This will show what your infected with.
Without me seeing a Hijackthis Log we will not be able to proceed

C:\Program Files\VResLab <-- This is what your infected with, its a rogue anti spyware program , its basically a Trojan.
Until your clean, outside of posting here, stay off the internet as part of your infection will go out and download more of this garbage.
You may want print out the instructions as you will need to be offline and and all windows closed for part of the fix. If there is something you don't understand, do not proceed, post back so I can help you.
Do this first...Important, please do not proceed with the fixes until you do this
Disable the TeaTimer, leave it disabled until we're done or it will prevent fixes from taking
Run Spybot-S&D in Advanced Mode.
If it is not already set to do this Go to the Mode menu select "Advanced Mode"
On the left hand side, Click on Tools
Then click on the Resident Icon in the List
Uncheck "Resident TeaTimer" and OK any prompts.
Restart your computer.<--You need to do this for it to take effect

Open HijackThis > Do a System Scan Only, close your browser and all open windows including this one, the only program or window you should have open is HijackThis, check the following entries and click on Fix Checked.

Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan.
The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.<-- Don't forget this
When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart
The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.

Run this cleaner to clean out all the temp files and such that could be clogging your system down.
Please download ATF Cleaner (http://www.atribune.org/ccount/click.php?id=1) by Atribune to your desktop.
This program is for XP and Windows 2000 only
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Under Main choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.Your system may start up slower after running ATF Cleaner, this is expected but will be back to normal after the first or second boot up

Keep in mind if you install some of these programs. Only ONE Anti Virus and only ONE Firewall is recommended, more is overkill and can cause you problems. You can install all the Spyware programs I have listed without any problems. If you install Spyware Blaster, you can still install Spybot Search and Destroy but do not enable the TeaTimer in Spybot or they will conflict.
Here are some free programs to install, all free and highly regarded by the fine people in the Malware Removal Community
Spybot Search and Destroy 1.6 (http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/)
Check for Updates/ Immunize and run a Full System Scan on a regular basis. If you install Spyware Blaster ( Recommended ) then do not enable the TeaTimer in Spybot Search and Destroy.
Spyware Blaster (http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html) It will prevent most spyware from ever being installed. No scan to run, just update about once a week and enable all protection.
Spyware Guard (http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareguard.html) It offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts, again, no scan to run, just install it and let it do its thing.
IE-Spyad (http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/file/fid,23332-order,1-page,1-c,antispywaretools/description.html)
IE-Spyad places over 6000 web sites and domains in the IE Restricted list which will severely impair attempts to infect your system. It basically prevents any downloads (cookies etc) from the sites listed, although you will still be able to connect to the sites.
Firefox 3 (http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/) It has more features and is a lot more secure than IE. It is a very easy and painless download and install, it will no way interfere with IE, you can use them both.

a. Quote .....only ONE anti virus and ONE firewall?? Which is which of the items you suggested please or am I supposed to be buying this from someone - trouble is in the past lots of people say that with firewall AOL DOES NOT WORK PROPERLY EVEN THOUGH THEY GIVE YOU MCAFEE FOR FREE??
b. Even more stupid of me.....but I can access your responses through the email notification, but when I go to the Spybot site and try to login, firstly it says welcome and then a couple of seconds later goes back to the login box again and then, once I have logged in using rhs top boxes, I cannot find my thread or your responses? Where do I go to access this please?

You have AVG Anti Virus installed, that's fine, you don't need to install another one, if AOL offers it to you just decline it.
As far as a firewall, I see none installed, you can enable the Windows Firewall like this, I don't know how your set up so you can do this one of two ways.
Go to Start> Control Panel ( and if its all icons click on the Windows Firewall ) and make sure its enabled. If its not icons, then Click on Security Center> Windows Firewall and make sure its enabled.
Out of all the great programs to keep you secure, there really is no need to purchase anything, all the tools I listed are recommended by people in the Malware Removal Community and are all free.
The windows firewall only works one way, blocking inbound attempts but does not block anything going out, a third party firewall blocks both inbound and outbound attempts, since your a novice you may just want to use the windows firewall, if you feel adventurous , you can download this free one, it will protect you but will get in your face a few times until its all configured.
