I have a laptop running Vista which has been infected by the zlob.DNSchanger. Each time I run Spybot, it picks it up, removes it, and then it re-appears next time I run Spybot. I am on a domestic wireless router. I have looked at various threads in forums on how to remove this pest, but there seem to be very few solutions, if any, for Vista users.
The visible effects of the virus are being redirected in internet searches and having dodgy advertising inserted into the websites I am viewing.
PLEASE HELP!!

Download and install TrendMicro HijackThis (http://www.trendsecure.com/portal/en-US/_download/HJTInstall.exe)
* Once installed open HijackThis by clicking Start > Programs > HijackThis and click the button labeled
Do a system scan only
* Click the scan button in the lower left hand corner of the interface and HijackThis will quickly scan your system.
* Once the scan is complete the scan button will now read save log. Click this button to save the log file to your PC. Once you select where you would like to save the file it will open in your systems default text editor. Typically this application is Notepad. Post the log here.
I am on a domestic wireless router.
It's highly possible that router has been hacked by the infection if it has had a weak/default password set. Are you able to login to it to check DNS server IP addresses there?

Hi there,
I am running a laptop on Vista, and am linked to a domestic wireless router. Spybot S&D finds Zlob.DNSchanger on every search, removes it, but it reappears next time. the malware inserts Vimax adverts into websites and redirects internet searches, and I'm concerned about further infections.

I posted the HJT log before I saw your reply, hope you have seen it and it has what you need to see.
I have just logged in to my Netgear router, and my DNS codes are:
Primary:
85.255.112.139
Secondary
85.255.112.121
I have removed the router, as something has gone wrong when I tried to reset it. I am using an ethernet connection for now.

Your log looks ok so it's the hacked router that's causing you this trouble.
I have removed the router, as something has gone wrong when I tried to reset it.What did happen? Did you reset it according to the router instructions? Usually routers have special reset button for cases like this. Resetted router must be set stronger password than the default one.

Without the wireless router, and connected directly to a reset modem (power turned off and on), I ran Spybot. It found the zlob.DNSchanger in System files, and it removed it. It has not come back since - when I reboot the computer and run Spybot it finds nothing. I am not having any problems with internet surfing now, so it seems the critter is gone. Thanks for your help.
Just need to get the reset router working again now. Should be fairly straightforward.

Back on the router, with a newly created network in place with a much tougher password. All clean still. Spybot finding nothing.
