0xc00007b equals problems

Hi,

My antivirus expired about a weekago and it was a day or two before I renewed it. Sadly in this time I got a virus. I cleaned my systems, but now when ever I try to run any new program I get the dreaded 0xc00007b reference as the program wont run.

I down loaded Hijackthis and this is what I got. Can you help me out?

Make sure you read and follow the directions, anything else will slow the process and waste both of our time. I suggest you keep this computer offline except when troubleshooting, the junk may download more. If you have any tool I use, delete it and download it new from the link I provide. What are you running as an antivirus program, I see a spyware blocker, a firewall, but no antivirus?

Post the error message you are receiving "word for word" NOT like this:
I get the dreaded 0xc00007b reference as the program wont run.
This may be a Windows problem and not a malware problem, in which case you would need a Windows XP forum, we shall see.

Post an uninstall list:
Open Hijackthis.
Click the "Open the Misc Tools" section Button.
Click the "Open Uninstall Manager" Button.
Click the "Save list..." Button.
Save it to your desktop. Copy and paste the contents into your reply.
(You may edit out Microsoft, Hotfixes, Security Update for Windows XP,
Update for Windows XP and Windows XP Hotfix to shorten the list)

The antivirus I am running is Spyware Doctor with Antivirus 6 which comes from www.pctools.com

The message is: The application failed ot initialize properly (0x00007b) Click on OK to terminate the application.

The two programs that this is currently affecting is UseNetXT.exe and Rar Password cracker.

This may or may not be caused by malware, you should start looking at that information for possible solutions.

Uninstall list: I look for malware and security issues and will not know all of your programs, but you should. The items I look for like Adobe Reader and Java are up to date. Unless you are sure all the rest are, you may wish to consider PSI Free.
Hackers are using out of date programs to infect folks more and more,
Here is a small free tool that lets you know when something needs an update if you are interested:
https://psi.secunia.com/ While PSI runs in the System Tray for realtime notifications, I personally prefer to turn it off in MSConfig and run it from All Programs when I want to do a check.

(follow the numbered order)

1) Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune

Save it to your Desktop. We will use this later.

2) Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

3) Run ATF Cleaner
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Click Select All found at the bottom of the list.
Click the Empty Selected button.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

4) Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your Desktop

* Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
* Be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
* If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
* Once the program has loaded, select Perform FULL SCAN, then click Scan.
* When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
* Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
* When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location. The log can also be opened by going to Start > All Programs > Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware > Logs > log-date.txt
* Please post contents of that file & a new HJT log in your next reply.

I am adding this as an afterthought, you said you cleaned the system. If by chance a system file got deleted or corrupted during this "cleaning", System File Checker should replace it.

Click Start > Run, type in sfc /scannow, hit Enter
Note: there is a space between sfc and /scannow
This should replace any corrupted/missing system files and will hopefully fix things. You may need your XP disc in your CD drive for this.

thanks for your help on this. The Malware program did pick up a few things my virus checker/spy ware failed to find. Possibly as they were already on the system when the new secuirty programs were installed.

O4 - HKLM\..\RunOnce: [Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware] C:\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamgui.exe /install /silent
Use HJT to remove the line item and make sure MBAM is not set to run (unless you should purchase the program) Just update and keep it handy as a backup on demand scanner, remove the stuff from Quarantine after a few days for safety.

As far as I can see the HJT log is clean, but you did have at least one infected System Restore files in the MBAM log, so do this.

Turn off System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Reboot

Turn ON System Restore,
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
UN-Check *Turn off System Restore*.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Update the antivirus program and scan the system to make sure it is working right and scanning clean. If all is well after a couple of days, let me know and I will close the topic.
