Adware/malware infection

Earlier I was browsing the web (using Opera with Javascript disabled aside from trusted sites) and I got an IE popup related to Antivirus 2009, some adware program. I clicked the x and quickly scanned with Spybot which ended up finding nothing. A few minutes later another popup came up which I also exited out of followed by an attempted download of a .exe file from some powerfullvirusscan website which I quickly stopped. After that I unplugged my modem and went into safe mode to do some scanning.

I scanned with:
Spybot Search & Destroy
Ad-Aware Quick Scan
Malwarebytes Quick Scan
Windows Defender Quick Scan

None of the scans found anything and the full scans take quite a long time so I figured I should post a thread with a HJT log while I do them as they may not find anything as well.

eueueueueu.exe is hijackthis, I was advised to rename it while getting help in the past as some malware can supposably hide themselves from it.

It is important to keep Sun Java up to date and also to remove older versions which may have vulnerabilites and possible exploits that can be taken advantage of to possibly introduce malware via your browser.

* 1. Uninstall old versions of Sun Java via Add/Remove Programs.
* 2. Click the Remove or Change/Remove butto
* 3. Reboot your PC if prompted.

Turns out I had update 7 instead of 10, I installed 10 and got rid of the old version so my Java is up to date now.

I'm just still curious to what caused this (the popups and attempted install) to happen. I wasn't visiting any unknown sites and if I was Javascript would've been disabled.

Earlier yesterday I had updated my Windows Live Messenger Plus! which i've heard can give you adware if you download the sponser but I unchecked that so it shouldn't have downloaded. I decided to uninstall Messenger Plus! just to be safe.

I constantly clean stuff out with ATF cleaner, do you think it could've been from a temp file (and if it was, I got rid of it sometime yesterday)?

hard to say where you got it from, even legit websites can unknowingly host malware.
using atfcleaner is a good idea, it could have downloaded and executed from a temp directory.
You certainly seem to be an aware computer user as far as malware goes. that will prevent alot of malware problems all by itself.
