Welcome to Safer Networking, I wish to be sure you have viewed and understand this information.
"BEFORE you POST" (READ this Procedure before Requesting Assistance) http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=288
All advice given is taken at your own risk.
Please make sure you have read this information so we are on the same page.

Make sure you read and follow the directions, anything else will slow the process and waste both of our time. I suggest you keep this computer offline except when troubleshooting, the junk may download more. If you have any tool I use, delete it and download it new from the link I provide. Read and follow the directions carefully, the tools will not work unless you do.
The junk can be tough to remove, so do not expect fast or easy.

James, you have posted an out of date HJT log? Please read the directions posted above and pinned (sticky) to the top of the forum and I will see if I can help.

1) Post an uninstall list: Open Hijackthis.
Click the "Open the Misc Tools" section Button.
Click the "Open Uninstall Manager" Button.
Click the "Save list..." Button.
Save it to your desktop. Copy and paste the contents into your reply.

Image: http://img.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/hijackthis/uninstall-man.jpg

2) And the properly located, updated HJT log.
Download Trend Micro Hijack This™ to your Desktop
http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/hijackthis/HJTInstall.exe
Doubleclick the HJTInstall.exe to start it.
By default it will install HijackThis in the Program Files\Trendmicro folder and create a desktop shortcut.
HijackThis will open after install. Press the Scan button below.
This will start the scan and open a log.
Copy and paste the contents of the log in your next reply.

Thanks

Let me start by saying, if I am going to give my timne, then I except you to read and follow the directions I post.

1) Please read the directions for locating HJT and install it as directed:sad:

By default it will install HijackThis in the Program Files\Trendmicro folder and create a desktop shortcut.

let's hope the removal media is not infected!

2) Uninstall list: I look for malware and security issues and will not know all of your programs, but you should.

Hackers are using out of date programs to infect folks more and more,
Here is a small free tool that lets you know when something needs an update if you are interested: https://psi.secunia.com/ While PSI runs in the System Tray for realtime notifications, I personally prefer to turn it off in MSConfig and run it from All Programs when I want to do a check.

Adobe Reader 7.0 <<< out of date and being exploited, see this:

I will do all the steps you have outlined but I am unsure as to what i did wrong when installing HJT. I cannot access the internet from the infected pc so I needed to upload it from a memory stick. I then saved it to the desktop as an .exe file and ran the two processes as requested. I am no trying to be combative. Do you mean you want me to install it into it's own folder and not in the programs file?

I forgot to add that after I run the scans I need to save the logs and upload them from the memory stick to my laptop to post here.

Save the HJTInstall.exe on the Desktop however you wish, then follow the directions.

http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/hijackthis/HJTInstall.exe <<< download

Doubleclick the HJTInstall.exe to start it.
By default it will install HijackThis in the Program Files\Trendmicro folder and create a desktop shortcut.
HijackThis will open after install. Press the Scan button below.
This will start the scan and open a log.
Copy and paste the contents of the log in your next reply.

Thanks

Ok I deleted all the programs you asked and tried to re install HJT but now I can no longer get it to work. Is there anything else I can do before I wipe the HD and start over?

I really don't know, are you still trying to install from removable media? Why can you take the computer online long enough to use the self installer I posted for you? It may be that something is blocking the installation, try running MBAM to see what happens.

Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your Desktop
http://www.besttechie.net/tools/mbam-setup.exe

* Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
* Be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
* If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
* Once the program has loaded, select Perform FULL SCAN, then click Scan.
* When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
* Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
* When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location. The log can also be opened by going to Start > All Programs > Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware > Logs > log-date.txt
* Please post contents of that file & a new HJT log in your next reply.

Note: If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts. Click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process. If asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately. Failure to reboot will prevent MBAM from removing all the malware.

No luck with the install. I can't even access this forum from the pc either. It must have some code that blocks and script with the word spybot in the title. When I DL the .exe file to the desktop and then try to run it the timer shows up and then goes away wihtout doing anything. When I open the window that shows what programs are running the .exe program shows as running but I cannot access it.

Thanks fro the help you have provided so far. I am thinking I will need to start over at this point.

As you can see the rootkit is present and this is going to be tough, if it works. I have not used this method before.
If you world prefer to reformat the computer, here are good instructions:
http://spyware-free.us/tutorials/reformat/
http://www.cyberwalker.net/faqs/how-tos/reinstall-faq.html
http://helpdesk.its.uiowa.edu/windows/instructions/reformat.htm

This is made even tougher by the fact you can't download to the computer and have to bring the tools via removable media. I would first like to give SDFix a try in this manner. You will need at least 1.45 MB's of space for this tool. The tool will be run in safe mode, but you will first bring the tool to the Desktop if at all possible, then boot the computer to safe mode and run the tool there. Here are the instructions.

Thanks to andymanchesta and anyone else who helped with the fix.

Download SDFix and save it to your Desktop
http://downloads.andymanchesta.com/RemovalTools/SDFix.exe

Double click SDFix.exe and it will extract the files to %systemdrive%
(Drive that contains the Windows Directory, typically C:\SDFix)

Please then reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
Restart your computer
After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
Instead of Windows loading as normal, the Advanced Options Menu should appear;
Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press Enter.
Choose your usual account.
Open the extracted SDFix folder and double click RunThis.bat to start the script.
Type Y to begin the cleanup process.
It will remove any Trojan Services and Registry Entries that it finds then prompt you to press any key to Reboot.
Press any Key and it will restart the PC.
When the PC restarts the Fixtool will run again and complete the removal process then display Finished, press any key to end the script and load your desktop icons.
Once the desktop icons load the SDFix report will open on screen and also save into the SDFix folder as Report.txt
(Report.txt will also be copied to Clipboard ready for posting back on the forum).
Finally post the contents of the Report.txt back on the forum with a new HijackThis log

Thanks

Sorry I took so long to respond. This last step didn't work. I can't run it in safe mode either. It looks like I have to reformat. Thanks so much for the help. Sorry that it didnt work out.
