View Full Version : Virtumonde troubles

After trying EVERYTHING I could think of trying, I've decided to seek advice from you guys. I'm infected by the Virtumonde virus, and I know exactly which file is the cause. The file is C:\WINDOWS\system32\khfCrPFU.dll, It won't let me delete, rename, or move the file because it is in use by another program (Winlogon.exe and explorer.exe) I've tried to end the proccess of winlogon, but that causes an instant crash-reboot, and explorer is what lets me do things to the file. I then tried to end the module in S&D, it works when I do it for winlogon, but when I do it for explorer a message comes up telling me that explorer needs to end because a virus is trying to do something to it. I know the Virtumonde virus renames its files when you try to remove them, but I'm almost certain the khfCrPFU.dll file is doing it. So here's my log, hope you guys can help.

Because that infection hides certain entries if HijackThis.exe is running :)
Download ComboFix from one of these locations:
Link 1 (http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe)
Link 2 (http://www.forospyware.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe)
Link 3 (http://subs.geekstogo.com/ComboFix.exe)
* IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop
Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools
We need first to disable TeaTimer that it doesn't interfere with fixes. You can re-enable it when you're clean again:
1. Run Spybot-S&D in Advanced Mode.
2. If it is not already set to do this Go to the Mode menu select "Advanced Mode"
3. On the left hand side, Click on Tools
4. Then click on the Resident Icon in the List
5. Uncheck "Resident TeaTimer" and OK any prompts.
6. Restart your computer.
Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.
As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.
Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.
**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v706/ried7/RcAuto1.gif
Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v706/ried7/whatnext.png
Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.
When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply along with a fresh HijackThis log.

To keep you updated, I ran a check with spybot to see f it was still showing virtumonde. It was, but only a single registry entry. I fixed it using the button, and restarted because of auto updates. I scanned again and I found nothing. I then tried out Internet explorer to see if the symptoms of the virus went away (constant pop ups saying I should download an anti-virus program) and it looked all clear. FYI, I also fixed a couple tracking cookies. So I guess now if you don't see any problems, I think I'm done here for now and hopefully forever. :)
IMPORTANT I notice there are signs of one or more P2P (Peer to Peer) File Sharing Programs on your computer.
