Hello

I am infected with Virtumonde. I tried to clean it several times as directed by Spybot, removed the internet connection and rebooted. No luck. Still getting pop-ups. Also I cannot activate Windows updater and Windows Restore only makes a maximum of 2 or 3 points - even though i have set storage to maximum and have tons of disk space

Here is the HJT log. I would appreciate some help.

BTW, I have been at this for a while. Would it make sense to just reinstall everything?

Hello,

The results you requested are below.

Even though I started this thread with a problem with Virtumonde, my most recent scan with Spybot did not turn these up. However I am still getting those pop-ups.

The scan I did with Malware turned up the Vundo Trojan. My resident Norton 360 has also been turning this up intermittently as well. Norton seem to find it when some other application (Malware or SuperAntiSpyware) finds it first. Anyways, ever time I clean it, it comes back. Does this make sense?

The main effect of the Vundo Trojan is th Windows Update stop working completely.

Thanks for the help.

Here are the logs:

hi,

ok thanks for the info.

However I am still getting those pop-ups.

check malwarebytes for updates then rescan with it and this time after the scan is finished:

* When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
* Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.

based on the first log where it says:
"No action taken."

it looks like the malware wasnt removed. try the above and post back.

hi,

I ran it again and it found Vundo again....

look here:

(Malware.Trace) -> Quarantined and deleted successfully.
(Trojan.Vundo) -> Quarantined and deleted successfully.

are you still having popups, page redirects, lost browser control,
anything like that?

Yes,

I am still getting them, though not as frequent. A scan by SpyBot turned up nothing.

I also get a notification by Spybot that a program called ctfmon keeps trying to register itself. According to Spybot this can mask itself as a legtimate windows program.
