Hi,

I am pretty sure my computer is infected with Smitfraud.c, virtumonde.prx, PWS.LDPinchIE, fraud.antimalwares, and possibly generic!atr (just blocked by Mcafee under C:\autorun.inf). One other odd bit of info ... when I start IE, all pics/icons are disabled, and I am not directed to my usual home page, and sometimes when I search on google, the link does not go where advertised.
THanks

If I am following directions right here is the Hijack this info

when I do the first thing you asked, it comes up with
c:\documents and settings\deon, and when I post the code, it states
***can't find server name for address 85.255.112.157: Timed Out
***can't find server name for address 85.255.112.183: Timed Out
***default servers are not available

I will run the malware when I get home later today ... I am on the way out the door right now. I just notice a reply and wanted to get that 1st part done.

Thanks for the response ..... I really appreciate your help!

hi,

ok thanks for the info. your DNS settings have been changed. your getting redirected to this well known ip address:
85.255.112

do you use a hardware router? if you have more than one computer that can get on the internet then you do have one.

its a web server that acts like a "bad" dns look up to redirect your web browsing. normally your dns lookups go to your isp's servers (or beyond) to get you to the right web page your looking for. this one will bring you ads, popups, bogus pages and sites.

hi,

ok good. must be looking better on your end now. does your isp require that you use a proxy server?

we will use hjt, first turn off tea timer like before.

start HJT, click the "Scan" button. check the items below, close any open windows, then click "Fixed checked"

O20 - Winlogon Notify: rqRKApoo - rqRKApoo.dll (file missing)

reboot and post one more hjt log, then we can finish it up.

we will use hjt once more:

start HJT, click the "Scan" button. check the items below, close any open windows, then click "Fixed checked"

some malware apps can prevent the home page from being changed. they can also put restrictions on options as shown here in the hjt log:

O6 - HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Restrictions present
O6 - HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Control Panel present

might be a setting in spybot, windows defender or your webroot software poke around and see if you can find anything in the software.

hi,

You still have malware. we will use combofix this time. please read through this guide, it looks like a lot but really only requires a few things on your part. Mainly installing the MS recovery console. post the log from it, then rescan and post a new hjt log also.

I ran combofix per instructions in the link provided, All seemed to go well. It had to reboot and after rebooting, the program stated that it could not produce a log and posted a window with a header of Windows -No Disk and gives a message of "Exception Processing Message c0000013 Parameters 75b6bf7c 4 75b6bf7c 75b6bf7c" with options of Cancel Try Again, and COntinue.

I first selected Try Again, I did nothing, just reposted the above window/block, I tried Continue and Cancel with the same results.

What do I do now??????

ok thanks for the info. i have never see that error msg. combofix dosnt require that drives be loaded. i wonder if it has anything to do with those mountpoints in the log.
anyway we will use combofix now;

as a precaution, before using combofix:

Temporarily disable your anti-virus, script blocking and any anti-malware real-time protection before performing a scan.
close any open windows.

Click Start, then Run and type Notepad and click OK.
Copy/paste the text in the code box below into notepad:

File::
C:\olyalcbs.exe
C:\ltljrg.exe
C:\cohdejrg.exe
C:\aqdr.exe
C:\677141451

Folder::
c:\program files\IESurfBar

Driver:
ma9kmi00.sys

Registry::
[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\explorer\mountpoints2\{5846d842-ee07-11db-886c-001111aa2201}]
[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\explorer\mountpoints2\{65241164-b189-11db-8834-001111aa2201}]
[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\explorer\mountpoints2\{6602778a-cc68-11dc-88e6-0013204d7cfe}]
[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\explorer\mountpoints2\{cd0007b6-bfcd-11db-8848-001111aa2201}]

Name the Notepad file CFScript.txt and Save it to your desktop.
now locate the file you just saved and the combofix icon, both on your desktop:

using your mouse drag the CFScript right on top of the combofix icon and release, combofix will run and produce a new log
please post the new combofix log and a new hjt log.

FYI:
I do not recommend the use of file sharing software. There is plenty
of malware distibuted on p2p networks. Files can be named anything,
have malware in them or be nothing but malware. Not to mention that
the sharing of copyrighted material is protected by laws.

hi,

ok thansk for the info. looks good. you can remove combofix like this:

start.run and type in combofix /u
click ok or enter
note; there is a space after the x and before the slash (/)

i may have already said this, i didnt go back and look; there is much malware shared on p2p networks.

if all looks good on your end now we can finish it up.

Actually, just started a new problem ... Each time I open a file, program, or any when the computer does any process a box displays the following:

The application or DLL C:\WINDOWS\system32\nevibuni.dll is not a valid Windows image. Please check this against your installation diskette.

How do I get rid of this? Everything seems to be working appropriately, except for the box that always pops up?

Thanks

hi,

ok good. cant find any reference to that .dll so we will assume its not part of a legit application. navigate to the:

C:\WINDOWS\system32 dir. and see if you can find:
nevibuni.dll

if so go to the website below and browse for the file again and upload it to the website using the send button. you can copy/paste the results in your reply:

Here is the response when uploaded:

0 bytes size received / Se ha recibido un archivo vacio

Also, to find the file, I had to show hidden files and folders, and "un"hide proteceted OS files, and extensions for known file types.

Also, when I look at its properties, It is 0bytes, and opens with unknown application.

Do you think that I can delete?

Thanks

hi,

your welcome. good, deleting that .dll would have been my next suggestion.
the script was to have combofix remove some items. couple things to do; make anew restore point. the how and why:

One of the features of Windows ME,XP and Vista is the System Restore option, however if malware infects a computer it is possible that the malware could be backed up in the System Restore folder. Therefore, clearing the restore points is a good idea after malware is removed.

To reset your restore points, please note that you will need to log into your computer with an account which has full administrator access. You will know if the account has administrator access because you will be able to see the System Restore tab. If the tab is missing, you are logged in under a limited account.

(winXP)

1. Turn off System Restore. (deletes old possibly infected restore point)
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

2. Reboot.

3. Turn ON System Restore.(new restore points on a clean system)
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
UN-Check *Turn off System Restore*.
Click Apply, and then click OK, then reboot

not only is it important to keep Windows updated, also keep other apps updated. Check links in item 1 below. for your reference:

Reducing Your Risk
The Short Version:

1) Keep your OS (http://update.microsoft.com/microsoftupdate/v6/default.aspx?ln=en-us),(Windows) browser (IE, FireFox) and other Software (http://secunia.com/vulnerability_scanning/online/) up to date to "patch" vulnerabilities.
2) Know what you are installing to your computer. Alot of software can come bundled with unwanted add-ons.
3) Install and keep them all updated: one antivirus and two or three anti-malware applications. If not updated they will soon be worthless.
4) Refrain from clicking on links or attachments you receive via E-Mail, IM, Chat Rooms or Social Sites, no matter how tempting or legitimate the message may seem. Are you sure of the source that sent them?
5) Don't click on ads/pop ups or offers from websites requesting that you install software to your computer. Do you trust the website?
6) Don't click on offers to "scan" your computer.
7) Set up and use limited accounts for everyday use, rather than administrator accounts.
8) Install a third party software firewall.
9) Consider using an alternate browser and E-mail client.
10) If your habits include: warez,or p2p file sharing then you are much more likely to encounter malicious code. Do you trust the source?
