The following instructions have been created to help you to get rid of "ContraVirus" manually.
Use this guide at your own risk; software should usually be better suited to remove malware, since it is able to look deeper.

Description:
ContraVirus claims to be an antispyware solution. If it is installed on the computer it detects some spyware even if the computer is a totally clean machine. In order to fix these problems, the user needs to purchase a licence. Contra-Virus is in close relation with "Ad-Protect" and "SpyShield".
Removal Instructions:

Autorun:

Please use Spybot-S&D (http://www.safer-networking.org/index.php?page=spybotsd), RunAlyzer (http://www.safer-networking.org/index.php?page=runalyzer) or msconfig.exe to remove the following autorun entries.

Entries named "Windows Updater Servc" and pointing to "<$SYSDIR>\xpuupdate.exe".

Important: There are more autorun entries that cannot be safely described in simple words. Please use Spybot-S&D (http://www.safer-networking.org/index.php?page=spybotsd) to remove them.

Installed Software List:

You can try to uninstall products with the names listed below; for items identified by other properties or to avoid malware getting active again on uninstallation, use Spybot-S&D (http://www.safer-networking.org/index.php?page=spybotsd) or RunAlyzer (http://www.safer-networking.org/index.php?page=runalyzer) to locate and get rid of these entries.

A file with an unknown location named "xpuupdate.exe".
Make sure you set your file manager to display hidden and system files. If ContraVirus uses rootkit technologies, use our RootAlyzer (http://forums.spybot.info/downloads.php?id=8) or our Total Commander anti-rootkit plugins (http://forums.spybot.info/downloads.php?id=3).
You will have to use a global search for files without a name specified. Be extra careful, because just the name might not be enough to identify files!

Delete the registry value "{EA038DDD-0FE0-41f5-BA60-FC3660529E71}" at "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar\WebBrowser\".
Delete the registry value "{EA038DDD-0FE0-41f5-BA60-FC3660529E71}" at "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar\".
Delete the registry key "Ad-Protect.Addin.1" at "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\Outlook\Addins\".
Delete the registry key "dnl7" at "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Shell\".
Delete the registry key "AdLoader" at "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Shell Extensions\".
Delete the registry key "Trace7" at "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Shell Extensions\".
Delete the registry key "1das" at "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Shell\".
Delete the registry value "{008C81773CF6FB107}" at "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Licenses\".
Delete the registry key "{5AF53372-266A-11DC-874D-879E56D89593}" at "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\".
Delete the registry key "{DBE5BEE8-F032-11DB-826A-C4BB56D89593}" at "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\".
Delete the registry key "{D7ABE914-B8CF-4602-9145-6BDAAEDA21AA}" at "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\".
