The following instructions have been created to help you to get rid of "EffectiveBandToolbar" manually.
Use this guide at your own risk; software should usually be better suited to remove malware, since it is able to look deeper.

Description:
This piece of malware hijacks IE. It sets the start page to about:blank, but redirects to a dubious search engine. In addition to this it bombards the user with popups making normal internet surfing impossible.
Removal Instructions:

Autorun:

Please use Spybot-S&D (http://www.safer-networking.org/index.php?page=spybotsd), RunAlyzer (http://www.safer-networking.org/index.php?page=runalyzer) or msconfig.exe to remove the following autorun entries.

Entries named "Qlg" and pointing to "<$SYSDIR>\Jut.exe".
Entries named "Rctw" and pointing to "<$APPDATA>\rtso.exe".

Installed Software List:

You can try to uninstall products with the names listed below; for items identified by other properties or to avoid malware getting active again on uninstallation, use Spybot-S&D (http://www.safer-networking.org/index.php?page=spybotsd) or RunAlyzer (http://www.safer-networking.org/index.php?page=runalyzer) to locate and get rid of these entries.

Products that have a key or property named "IE Menu Extension toolbar".
Products that have a key or property named "SearchAssistant Uninstall".

Files:

Please use Windows Explorer or another file manager of your choice to locate and delete these files.

The file at "<$LOCALSETTINGS>\Temp\se.dll".
The file at "<$PROGRAMFILES>\IEMenuExtension\logo.ico".
A file with an unknown location named "IEMenuExtension.exe".
The file at "<$PROGRAMFILES>\IEMenuExtension\tbextn.dll".
The file at "<$PROGRAMFILES>\IEMenuExtension\toolbar.cfg".
The file at "<$WINDIR>\IEMenuExtension.exe".
The file at "<$WINDIR>\toolbar.exe".
The file at "<$SYSDIR>\ijj.dll".
The file at "<$WINDIR>\..\crash.txt".
The file at "<$APPDATA>\rtso.exe".
Make sure you set your file manager to display hidden and system files. If EffectiveBandToolbar uses rootkit technologies, use our RootAlyzer (http://forums.spybot.info/downloads.php?id=8) or our Total Commander anti-rootkit plugins (http://forums.spybot.info/downloads.php?id=3).
You will have to use a global search for files without a name specified. Be extra careful, because just the name might not be enough to identify files!

Important: There are more files that cannot be safely described in simple words. Please use Spybot-S&D (http://www.safer-networking.org/index.php?page=spybotsd) to remove them.

Folders:

Please use Windows Explorer or another file manager of your choice to locate and delete these folders.

The directory at "<$PROGRAMFILES>\IEMenuExtension".
Make sure you set your file manager to display hidden and system files. If EffectiveBandToolbar uses rootkit technologies, use our RootAlyzer (http://forums.spybot.info/downloads.php?id=8) or our Total Commander anti-rootkit plugins (http://forums.spybot.info/downloads.php?id=3).

Registry:

You can use regedit.exe (included in Windows) to locate and delete these registry entries.

Delete the registry value "conc" at "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\".
Delete the registry key "{2AD786B9-7EF9-4C19-86FD-35401804678E}" at "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\".
Delete the registry key "{6B95678D-30A4-4FF8-A72F-4208340C1F7F}" at "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\".
Delete the registry key "{7E064CFE-8602-4991-96B5-6F7A7258AC71}" at "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\".
Delete the registry key "{B72F75B8-93F3-429D-B13E-660B206D897A}" at "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\".
Delete the registry key "{BF28C23A-4D3C-4711-8305-0018CA8F2CE5}" at "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\".
Delete the registry key "{BF28C23A-4D3C-4711-8305-0018CA8F2CE5}" at "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Browser Helper Objects\".
Delete the registry value "hws" at "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\".
Delete the registry value "{6B95678D-30A4-4FF8-A72F-4208340C1F7F}" at "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar\WebBrowser\".
Delete the registry value "{CA0E28FA-1AFD-4C21-A8DC-70EB5BE2F076}" at "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\URLSearchHooks\".
Delete the registry value "{6b95678d-30a4-4ff8-a72f-4208340c1f7f}" at "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar\".
Delete the registry key "toolbar" at "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\IEMenuExtension\".
Delete the registry key "{79849612-A98F-45B8-95E9-4D13C7B6B35C}" at "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Code Store Database\Distribution Units\".
Delete the registry key "{9EB320CE-BE1D-4304-A081-4B4665414BEF}" at "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Code Store Database\Distribution Units\".
Delete the registry value "{CA0E28FA-1AFD-4C21-A8DC-70EB5BE2F076}" at "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\UrlSearchHooks\".
A key in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\ named "TPUSN", plus associated values.
References to the file "<$SYSDIR>/msvcrt.dll" at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ModuleUsage\.
References to the file "<$SYSDIR>/olepro32.dll" at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ModuleUsage\.
If EffectiveBandToolbar uses rootkit technologies, use our RegAlyzer (http://www.safer-networking.org/index.php?page=regalyzer), RootAlyzer (http://forums.spybot.info/downloads.php?id=8) or our Total Commander anti-rootkit plugins (http://forums.spybot.info/downloads.php?id=3).

Browser:
