The following instructions have been created to help you to get rid of "GAIN.DashBar" manually.
Use this guide at your own risk; software should usually be better suited to remove malware, since it is able to look deeper.

Start Menu:

Please remove the following items from your start menu.
To check where they are pointing to, right-click them and choose "Properties" from the context menu appearing.

Groups named "DashBar".

Installed Software List:

You can try to uninstall products with the names listed below; for items identified by other properties or to avoid malware getting active again on uninstallation, use Spybot-S&D (http://www.safer-networking.org/index.php?page=spybotsd) or RunAlyzer (http://www.safer-networking.org/index.php?page=runalyzer) to locate and get rid of these entries.

Products that have a key or property named "{4A840E1E-2BA8-47de-923E-0E00407EB530}".
Products that have a key or property named "DashBar_GAIN".
Products that have a key or property named "MagicWaterfall_GAIN".
Products that have a key or property named "DashBar".

Files:

Please use Windows Explorer or another file manager of your choice to locate and delete these files.

The file at "<$WINDIR>\GatorGainInstaller.log".
The file at "<$PROGRAMFILES>\DashBar\DashBar15.dll".
The file at "<$PROGRAMFILES>\DashBar\DashBarSetup.log".
The file at "<$PROGRAMFILES>\DashBar\DashbarWebsite.URL".
The file at "<$PROGRAMFILES>\DashBar\sstreg.exe".
Make sure you set your file manager to display hidden and system files. If GAIN.DashBar uses rootkit technologies, use our RootAlyzer (http://forums.spybot.info/downloads.php?id=8) or our Total Commander anti-rootkit plugins (http://forums.spybot.info/downloads.php?id=3).
You will have to use a global search for files without a name specified. Be extra careful, because just the name might not be enough to identify files!

Important: There are more files that cannot be safely described in simple words. Please use Spybot-S&D (http://www.safer-networking.org/index.php?page=spybotsd) to remove them.

Folders:

Please use Windows Explorer or another file manager of your choice to locate and delete these folders.

The directory at "<$COMMONPROGRAMS>\GAIN Publishing".
The directory at "<$LOCALSETTINGS>\Temp\fsg_tmp".
Make sure you set your file manager to display hidden and system files. If GAIN.DashBar uses rootkit technologies, use our RootAlyzer (http://forums.spybot.info/downloads.php?id=8) or our Total Commander anti-rootkit plugins (http://forums.spybot.info/downloads.php?id=3).
You will have to use a global search for files without a name specified. Be extra careful, because just the name might not be enough to identify folders!

Registry:

You can use regedit.exe (included in Windows) to locate and delete these registry entries.

A key in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\ named "hnjjalpl", plus associated values.
References to the file "/HDPlugin????.dll" at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ModuleUsage\.
Delete the registry key "tjnrtd" at "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\".
References to the file "<$WINDIR>\Downloaded Program Files\CONFLICT.1\HDPlugin????.dll" at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\SharedDlls\.
References to the file "<$WINDIR>\Downloaded Program Files\HDPlugin????.dll" at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\SharedDlls\.
A key in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\ named "DashBarToolbar.SearchScoutBandObj", plus associated values.
Delete the registry key "{CC90CDA0-74A0-45b4-80EF-D89CA8C249B8}" at "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\".
Delete the registry key "{A2BA5E71-5BE3-4007-AC48-157823FB63FB}" at "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Interface\".
Delete the registry key "{8642D0F2-37CC-46B7-AA5B-399E6E68C626}" at "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\TypeLib\".
Delete the registry value "{CC90CDA0-74A0-45b4-80EF-D89CA8C249B8}" at "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar\".
If GAIN.DashBar uses rootkit technologies, use our RegAlyzer (http://www.safer-networking.org/index.php?page=regalyzer), RootAlyzer (http://forums.spybot.info/downloads.php?id=8) or our Total Commander anti-rootkit plugins (http://forums.spybot.info/downloads.php?id=3).
