View Full Version : Unable to remove FakeMSN8Beta
I keep running Spybot and it finds the above plus Windows.RedirectedHosts, and it removes everything but on reboot they are back. In safe mode I run Spybot and it finds another but different file for FakeMSN and removes it, but it is also returns on reboot. I'm running Windows XP. Any please help? I'd really like to get rid of this.

Uninstall Spybot 1.3, restart your PC and delete spybots folder in programs files then install update and check for problems and fix with SSD 1.4
Download found here
http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/index.html
If after that the fakemsnbeta still shows in your scan results let us know
I did all that. I install SSD 1.4 and try to download updates and I get an error message. It says Error retrieving update info file! Socket Error # 10061 Connection Refused.

Enter the correct proxy settings
http://www.safer-networking.org/en/faq/10.html
If no luck try unchecking that setting
http://www.safer-networking.org/en/howto/proxy.html
The only thing for proxies I see in my browswer settings says "direct connection to internet"

Close all browsers
Uncheck the proxy box as mentioned here
http://www.safer-networking.org/en/howto/proxy.html
Close SpyBot afterwards, scan and fix this item with hijackthis

Connect to the internet
Open SpyBot again and check for update's, any luck ?
Took out last line with hijackthis. Didn't help anything. Still can't get most webpages to load, now my outlook can't log on to my email server.

"Still can't get most webpages to load"
And how long has this been going on ?

Since I've been having the problem with fakemsn8beta.

Hi
I think the easyest solution is to reinstall your connection software

Ok, but what do you mean by connection software?

SHAW Internet is your internet provider ?
Go through setting it up again
SHAW Internet is your internet provider ?
Go through setting it up again
I don't think that will work, I only installed the software that came with my Shaw package after I started having these problems because I wanted to get different antivirus and spyware software, which also doesn't work due to whatever is blocking my internet usage is also blocking those programs. I think I'll have to reformat and reinstall everything.

Curious who was your internet provider before you installed shaw ?
A format & new windows install is your choice ofcource, if you do be sure to install protection software and update everything right off the bat.

I was previously using a company called Telus. I don't recall if I installed software from them or if I still have it.
I think a format and reinstall would be the easist for me at this point, because every time I install some new software as well as existing software, I am being blocked to the internet for reasons that I cannot understand.
