View Full Version : Qoologic.bj problem

I foolishly clicked an OK on a popup on a questionable website and infected my computer most horrendously.

I have run Ewido, Spybot S&D, Adaware, have allowed Spybot and adaware both to run on startup, and ran Ewido again. Ewido cannot repair the Qoologic.bj files on my system (obtains errors in cleaning). Looked for the filename in question and it does not exist, I assume its random.

Browsed your forums, found someone with the same problem, ran Hijack this, carefully made sure I was selecting files that were similar to those on the list given to the other person (but had the random filename attached to the qoologic on my own computer) and had hijack this delete them. The only two that were similar enough that I felt safe deleting were SIMILAR to:

02 - BHO: (no name) - {20D57A66-F7DF-467d-907B-9B7F4A118AB7} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\byxyv.dll (file missing)

(byxyv.dll is one of the processes running in windows that came up with no match when I googled it, so was obvious to me it was a random file name assigned by malware.)

and 04 - HKCU\..Run: [xxolb] C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\qkdsregk.exe
(this file I believe was exactly the same on my computer, I cannot be sure and I apologize if I am remembering wrong and it causes problems)

I turned off all running processes on my taskbar, disconnected from the internet, closed all programs, and ran Hijack this. This is my logfile (after I had allowed hijack this to remove the above mentioned entries):

Download Brute Force Uninstaller (http://www.merijn.org/files/bfu.zip) to your C:\
Unzip it to a folder of its own (C:\BFU). So BFU should be on your root. In most cases this is C:\
Download qoofix.bat (http://downloads.subratam.org/Lon/qooFix.bat) (rightclick on this link and choose save as)
Place qoofix.bat in your C:\BFU - folder. (Important!)
Doubleclick qooFix.bat, Close all browsers and explorer folders.
Choose option 1 (Qoolfix autofix) and follow the prompts.
Please be patient, it will take about five minutes.
After the PC has restarted please post another hijackthis log.

To clear the added ranges and domains (O15's)
Download this file to your desktop
http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/DelDomains.inf
Close all browsers, right-click and select: Install
It realy doesnt install, just clears all sites in the domains and Ranges keys.
Afterward's you will need to immunize again in SpyBot and re-protect again with SpywareBlaster
or re-install iespyadds if its installed, then the file itself can be deleted (DelDomains.inf)

Uninstall ewido then go get the new version
http://www.ewido.net/en/download/
Install, update then do a full scan

Why dont i see an antivirus program in your logs ?

Post a fresh hijackthis log please, be sure to mention any current problems.

Did all of the above, but afterwards also ran S&D and (updated)Ewido in safe mode, then on bootup ran Ewido again. Still noticing some sneaky things going on, and I also see some files removed with HJT have returned in the log. Ewido is now protecting my system, I have not had a virus scanner because I've had problems with them being invasive (updates and scans I couldnt turn off interrupting during online gameplay) and causing software problems (Norton) in the past, and I also am extremely cautious about opening emails, and rarely browse the net. I thought being smart would protect me (I also run on a router which serves as a bit of protection).
I see the error of my ways because of this one small click that is causing so much trouble. Is there a specific antivirus program you can recommend that is effective yet not as invasive as say, Norton?
And thank you for your help.

Joanna

Also, do you recommend I purchase Ewido for permanent protection, or do you recommend something else?

Thank you again,

Paying for Ewido is your chioce, it will continue to function after the trial but without the resident protection.

free programs
Install atleast a free anti virus
Dont make the common mistake of installing more than one anti virus or firewall program.
AVG Anti-Virus-Free: http://www.grisoft.com/us/us_dwnl_free.php
AntiVir Personal Edition: http://www.free-av.com/
avast! 4 Home - Free antivirus software :
http://www.asw.cz/eng/free_virus_protectio.html

Install and update one, reboot into safe mode and do a full system scan
Afterwards and while your still in safe mode do a scan with each of your other programs, spybot, ewido, one at a time.

Restart back to normal and let us know of any current problems.

Install SpywareBlaster (By JavaCool): http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html

Zip up these folders and attach them here please
C:\WINDOWS\?ppPatch\ it will have this file inside >> ??plorer.exe
C:\WINDOWS\ICROSO~1\ it will have this file inside >userinit.exe

Ok I downloaded SpywareBlaster, disabled download activex controls as it recommended, fixed the Toontown installer with HJT (My son plays toontown and I dont' have his password so cannot test it, but am concerned he will not be able to play it without axctiveX enabled).

I looked for the folders and files you asked for, but did not find a filed named ??plorer.exe, or even Explorer for that matter, in the ?ppPatch folder, although I have zipped the files that were in the folder and attached them here (it would not allow me to zip the folder itself, it said the name contained a character that compressed folders cannot store).

I also did not find a file named userinit.exe anywhere on my computer (using search, I also have hidden files shown).
I found Icroso~1 in the C:/Windows/Microsoft/ folder, and it also gave me a message that it contained a character that cannot be compressed = M.

It won't let me compress the two files within it so I am also uploading them without compression. They are small so it shouldn't matter :)

I'm trusting the three files I uploaded are attached, this reply window doesn't show the items attached to it.

Woops. I apologize, I didn't realize that by "attach them here" You meant the link below the directions. I am registering and uploading them now.

Thanks,

Now I feel like an idiot. I did the search twice for userinit.exe and mispelled it both times :o
Sorry. Uploading that next.

Hi
Your looking for
C:\WINDOWS\?ppPatch\ not apppatch, we are not sure what characters it has
C:\WINDOWS\ICROSO~1 not Microsoft, it will have odd character's in its name, Thanks.

gwenhaven
2006-04-29, 22:53
The only ?pppatch folder windows search finds is Apppatch

The only Icroso~1 found is in the Windows\Microsoft folder

LonnyRJones
2006-04-29, 23:01
Dont use search.
Open the c:\windows folder sort by date and look for that oddly named folder, same for the other basicly.

gwenhaven
2006-04-30, 02:48
I'm sorry I found no folders with names even close, other than the apppatch, in the Windows directory.

only one even close to the ICROSO~1 is Microsoft.NET.

Hi

Lets try this
Copy the contents of the quote box below into a new notepad document (not wordpad).
Click file> save as...> call it check.bat > file types *all files*> and save it to desktop.

chcp 1252
dir /B /AD %windir% >log.txt
echo...>>log.txt
dir /B /AD "C:\Program Files\Common Files" >>log.txt

Run check.bat, then attach the log.txt please, it will list all folders in the windows directory.

what do the c:\windows\s?mbols and c:\windows\?icrosoft folders look like ?
the question mark's will probably be some odd looking characters

The kqof folders can safely be deleted
c:\windows\kqof
C:\Program Files\Common Files\kqof

gwenhaven
2006-05-01, 03:16
those folders look like:

Microsoft

and

Symbols

:)

If I try to zip them, though, it says it cannot be compressed because the Microsoft folder contains a character that cannot be read by compression programs (something like that) and it indicates: M

Same with Symbols, it indicates: y

LonnyRJones
2006-05-01, 06:37
Rightclick on those folders and choose rename, does its show the same names when you do that ?
exit dont rename them
what are the contents of each ?

Its not a new spyware im just investigating

Im asking others about this, it may take a few days or a week.
