View Full Version : On-demand scanner problem

Hi,

I'm running S&D 1.6.0.3 and the "on demand scanner" ver 1.6.0.4

When I try to open a file that I know is safe (spreadsheets that I have created myself, pictures from my own camera, music from CD's etc) the
on-demand scanner pops up, scans the file once, no problem, then creates
a second scan entry for the same file and freezes....

There doesn't appear to be any way to stop this process other than to shut down S&D completely, it will continue to scan the file endlessly without letting it go.....

Anyone have an idea on how to solve this?

You appear to be using a dated version. The current version of the SDFiles.exe as far as I am aware is 1.6.1.7.

Also each file is scanned twice, the second time being a Heuristic scan (as is shown on the attached screen shot. This can take a little while if scanning very large files depending on your hardware.

Thanks Greyfox,

I don't know how to update the stand alone scanner (it doesn't have a control panel of it's own, so if it doesn't update with SS&D, then it won't get updated at all)

As for the second scan, heuristic or not, a 300k file shouldn't take all day to
scan, the program is definitely stuck in a loop (see the screenshot, it just keeps scanning over and over)

I'd be happy enough just to remove or disable it if there is an option to do so
but I haven't seen anything that lets me do that

Anyone have any ideas about how to solve this, or know of an install for SS&D that DOESN'T contain this "feature"?

The Windows Explorer scanning [updates] should be listed automatically as updates in the updater. And about removing the scanning feature, feel free to browse this post by Zer0 Voltage:
