Dear esteemed members,

For several days now my computer has been running mighty slow. Everytime I run trendmicro housecall online scan it comes up with the following infection AD_WSE.68092. It seems I am not able to remove this spyware/malware.

I have searched high and low till I found this forum. Tried to follow the correct procedures and now I am posting my HJT log file for your kind help.

You help will be very much appreciated, otherwise I guess I will have to take the drastic measure of formating my HDD and starting with a clean slate!

Thank you.

Hello and welcome to the forum. This is the latest in a long line of infections we call Wareout from hackers in the Ukraine, see this: http://whois.domaintools.com/85.255.116.59
We can fix this and avoid a reformat if you will follow the directions. Let's start like this:

Thanks to LonnyRJones and any others who worked on this fix. In the event you had downloaded this fix before, please delete it from your computer as you need the newest download.

You may want to print out these instructions for reference, since you will have to restart your computer during the fix.

Please download FixWareout from one of these sites:
http://downloads.subratam.org/Fixwareout.exe
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/files/lonny/Fixwareout.exe

Save it to your desktop and run it. Click Next, then Install, then make sure "Run fixit" is checked and click Finish. The fix will begin; follow the prompts. You will be asked to reboot your computer; please do so. Your system may take longer than usual to load; this is normal.

At the end of the fix, you may need to restart your computer again.

Finally, please post a fresh HijackThis log, along with the contents of the logfile C:\fixwareout\report.txt

Now lets check some settings on your system.
(2000/XP) Only
In the windows control panel. If you are using Windows XP's Category View, select the Network and Internet Connections category otherwise double click on Network Connections. Then right click on your default connection, usually local area connection for cable and dsl, and left click on properties. Click the Networking tab. Double-click on the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) item and select the radio dial that says Obtain DNS servers automatically
Press OK twice to get out of the properties screen and reboot if it asks.
That option might not be avaiable on some systems
Next Go start run type cmd and hit OK
type
ipconfig /flushdns
then hit enter, type exit hit enter
(that space between g and / is needed)

Post the HijackThis log and the C:\fixwareout\report.txt. This is the first step and we will have more to do. Please add any comments you think will help.

I also want to suggest that since these infections attract others and to deny the Ukrainians access to your computer, that you stay offline as much as possible until you are clean.

Thanks...pskelley

Thanks, that was quick, first I need to show you this item: C:\WINDOWS\system32\conime.exe
Some information about it: http://www.liutilities.com/products/wintaskspro/processlibrary/conime/ this may have come with Wareout but I doubt it. Good chance this was there also and you will want to read that information because your security, passwords, etc, has been compromised.

Now I am also finding this: http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=903204

The XMLSerializer class performs dynamical compilation. During dynamical compilation, the Csc.exe process is started. In turn, the Csc.exe process starts the Conime.exe process on Asian versions of Windows XP. If this should apply to you or if you want to be sure it is a worm before removing it, use one or more of these free online scanners and please share that information with me.
http://virusscan.jotti.org/
http://www.kaspersky.com/scanforvirus
http://www.virustotal.com/flash/index_en.html

1) You will need to show hidded files and folders: http://www.xtra.co.nz/help/0,,4155-1916458,00.html we will need to enter Safe Mode to complete these instructions, here is a tutorial for using Safe Mode if you need it:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial61.html

2) Please download Ewido Security Suite (http://www.ewido.net/en/download/) it is a trial version of the program.
Install ewido security suite
Launch ewido, there should be an icon on your desktop double-click it.
The program will now go to the main screen
You will need to update ewido to the latest definition files.
On the left hand side of the main screen click update
Then click on Start Update
The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
If you are having problems with the updater, you can use this link to manually update Ewido.
Ewido manual updates (http://www.ewido.net/en/download/updates/)
Do not run ewido now, close the program.

3) Restart the computer in Safe Mode, once in safe mode...

4) Once the updates are installed do the following:
Click on scanner
Click on Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
NOTE: During some scans with ewido it is finding cases of false positives.**
You will need to step through the process of cleaning files one-by-one.
If ewido detects a file you KNOW to be legitimate, select none as the action.
DO NOT select "Perform action on all infections"
If you are unsure of any entry found select none for now.

Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save report
Click Save report.
Save the report .txt file to your desktop.
Now close ewido security suite.
**(Ewido for example has been flagging parts of AVG Anti-Virus, pcAnywhere and the game "Risk")

Save that scan report, I must see it, stay in safe mode.

5) Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {4CAED19B-9464-26B6-E08B-E6EAE8751B1C} - powerdll.dll (file missing)
O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{332AF79D-E4E4-4F76-A2D3-F71351F0DC0B}: NameServer = 85.255.116.59,85.255.112.188
O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{A0D20D85-9B67-4768-8D86-16187FE63432}: NameServer = 85.255.116.59,85.255.112.188
O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{ED4AEA9E-BE04-4A02-B129-B90361B896AF}: NameServer = 85.255.116.59,85.255.112.188
O17 - HKLM\System\CS1\Services\Tcpip\..\{332AF79D-E4E4-4F76-A2D3-F71351F0DC0B}: NameServer = 85.255.116.59,85.255.112.188
O17 - HKLM\System\CS2\Services\Tcpip\..\{332AF79D-E4E4-4F76-A2D3-F71351F0DC0B}: NameServer = 85.255.116.59,85.255.112.188

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

RIGHT Click on Start then click on Explore. Locate and delete these items:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\conime.exe >>> file

C:\Windows\Prefetch\ >>> delete the contents (NOT THE FOLDER)
Prefetch info: http://www.windowsnetworking.com/articles_tutorials/Gaining-Speed-Empty-Prefetch-XP.html

Empty the Recycle Bin and restart your computer to return to Normal Mode.

Post for me the ewido scan results, a new HJT log and any comments you think will help.

If you don't have a good cleaner, use this free one with these instructions:
Download CCleaner from this link: http://www.ccleaner.com/ Review the instructions http://www.ccleaner.com/help/tour1.asp
Run CCleaner, Windows & Applications when you run the registry cleaner (Issues) you will be prompted to backup before you can remove stuff, make sure you do.

Thanks...Phil
