Spybot running very slow and sometimes get redirected in browser

Hi, hope somebody can help me fix my problems. It seems to have started quite a while ago I got infected with UnspyPC. Thought I cleaned it but ever since I've been having problems. :scratch:

Also, I have switched from Norton to PC-cillin. Can I use HJT to remove the residual symantec stuff?

Hello and welcome to the forum. You still have a marker in your log for the Wareout infection. Remember this is a rootkit infection that UnspyPC sometimes come along with. To be sure let's run the fix again. Please make sure you delete any old Wareout tools you have, it must be download new. Follow the directions if you wish to be successful.

Thanks to LonnyRJones, Swandog46, AutoDad and any others who helped with this fix.
You may want to print out these instructions for reference, since you will have to restart your computer during the fix.

Please download FixWareout from one of these sites:

Save it to your desktop and run it. Click Next, then Install, then make sure "Run fixit" is checked and click Finish. The fix will begin; follow the prompts. You will be asked to reboot your computer; please do so. Your system may take longer than usual to load; this is normal.

At the end of the fix, you may need to restart your computer again.

Finally, please post a fresh HijackThis log, along with the contents of the logfile C:\fixwareout\report.txt

(please hold the logs until we finish)


Now lets check some settings on your system.
(2000/XP) Only
In the windows control panel. If you are using Windows XP's Category View, select the Network and Internet Connections category otherwise double click on Network Connections. Then right click on your default connection, usually local area connection for cable and dsl, and left click on properties. Click the Networking tab. Double-click on the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) item and select the radio dial that says Obtain DNS servers automatically
Press OK twice to get out of the properties screen and reboot if it asks.
That option might not be avaiable on some systems
Next Go start run type cmd and hit OK
type
ipconfig /flushdns
then hit enter, type exit hit enter
(that space between g and / is needed)


Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

Run CCleaner, Windows & Applications when you run the registry cleaner (Issues) you will be prompted to backup before you can remove stuff, make sure you do.

Restart the computer and post a fresh HijackThis log, along with the contents of the logfile C:\fixwareout\report.txt. Let me know how you are running now.

Thanks for all the help and pointing me at some new utilities. Seems to be running ok now. I did see some weird problems with IE loading blank pages but that seems to have cleared up too.

I read another post by LonnyRJones the other day mentioning the dmlaz.exe which by then changed to dmsty.exe I think. I went into system32 and found 5 such entries:
dmadq, dmkym, dmmig, dmsty, dmwfw
...that didn't show up in a web search so I moved em out of system32. Think they are ok to delete?

Here is the HJT log after I initially found about the dmlaz.exe and removed it the other day; it had changed names. When I ran it again after reading your post it looks the same.

These files: dmadq, dmkym, dmmig, dmsty, dmwfw, did you remove them before you ran the wareout fix? They look like and are probably part of the infection and would more than likely have been removed during it. You can allow them to set in the Recycle Bin for a few days to be safe before you delete them or you can run a quick scan using one of these tools:

Just for your benefit, if you need some additional resouces, I see several programs running at every bootup that are probably not needed and could be started manually in Start > All Programs. If you want to look at these, look at the ones like this: O4 - HKLM\..\Run using this information: http://netsquirrel.com/msconfig/ Use Google to search the executable and make sure you do not turn off any security programs.

System Restore does not know the good files from the bad. In case bad stuff has gotten into your System Restore files, follow the instructions in this link to get clean System Restore files. Turn it off, reboot then turn it back on:
