The following instructions have been created to help you to get rid of "CommonName" manually.
Use this guide at your own risk; software should usually be better suited to remove malware, since it is able to look deeper.

The Privacy Statement makes it clear: they are collection personally identifiable information and giving it away: "We may sell or pass on your personally identifiable information to carefully selected organisations in which you may be interested."

If you download and install the Software in order to use the CommonName(TM) service to locate a web site ("Software User"), CommonName(TM) collects personally identifiable information such as your name, your company name, your contact telephone number, your address, your e-mail address, your country of residence and your postal code, to enable us to provide you with appropriate customer service and support.
[...]CommonName(TM) may share your personally identifiable information with the following third parties for the following purposes:[...]In order to bring the CommonName(TM) service to you, we have entered and may enter into arrangements with certain business partners such as web browser providers, search engines and internet service providers. Where it is necessary to share your personally identifiable information such as name and e-mail address with our business partners we will do so but only to the extent necessary for them to provide the specific services that they are required to.[...]

Removal Instructions:

Start Menu:

Please remove the following items from your start menu.
To check where they are pointing to, right-click them and choose "Properties" from the context menu appearing.

Groups that have "CommonName" in their name.

Autorun:

Please use Spybot-S&D (http://www.safer-networking.org/index.php?page=spybotsd), RunAlyzer (http://www.safer-networking.org/index.php?page=runalyzer) or msconfig.exe to remove the following autorun entries.

Entries pointing to "Toolbar\CNBabe.dll,DllStartup".
Entries pointing to "Toolbar\winnet.exe".
Entries named "babeie".
Entries named "winnet".

Installed Software List:

You can try to uninstall products with the names listed below; for items identified by other properties or to avoid malware getting active again on uninstallation, use Spybot-S&D (http://www.safer-networking.org/index.php?page=spybotsd) or RunAlyzer (http://www.safer-networking.org/index.php?page=runalyzer) to locate and get rid of these entries.

Products with a key that includes "CommonName" in its name or properties.

Files:

Please use Windows Explorer or another file manager of your choice to locate and delete these files.

A file with an unknown location named "cnbar.exe".
A file with an unknown location named "cndesk.exe".
A file with an unknown location named "cnoutlook.exe".
The file at "<$SYSDIR>\cnins.txt".
The file at "<$PROGRAMFILES>\CommonName\AddressBar\navigate.htm".
The file at "<$PROGRAMFILES>\CommonName\AddressBar\emaillink.htm".
The file at "<$PROGRAMFILES>\CommonName\AddressBar\createnote.htm".
The file at "<$PROGRAMFILES>\CommonName\AddressBar\createbookmark.htm".
The file at "<$PROGRAMFILES>\CommonName\AddressBar\rws.dat".
The file at "<$PROGRAMFILES>\CommonName\AddressBar\fws.dat".
The file at "<$PROGRAMFILES>\CommonName\AddressBar\dfs.dat".
The file at "<$PROGRAMFILES>\CommonName\AddressBar\exit.dat".

Make sure you set your file manager to display hidden and system files. If CommonName uses rootkit technologies, use our RootAlyzer (http://forums.spybot.info/downloads.php?id=8) or our Total Commander anti-rootkit plugins (http://forums.spybot.info/downloads.php?id=3).
You will have to use a global search for files without a name specified. Be extra careful, because just the name might not be enough to identify files!

Important: There are more files that cannot be safely described in simple words. Please use Spybot-S&D (http://www.safer-networking.org/index.php?page=spybotsd) to remove them.

Folders:

Please use Windows Explorer or another file manager of your choice to locate and delete these folders.

The directory at "<$PROGRAMFILES>\CommonName".
Make sure you set your file manager to display hidden and system files. If CommonName uses rootkit technologies, use our RootAlyzer (http://forums.spybot.info/downloads.php?id=8) or our Total Commander anti-rootkit plugins (http://forums.spybot.info/downloads.php?id=3).
You will have to use a global search for files without a name specified. Be extra careful, because just the name might not be enough to identify folders!

Registry:

You can use regedit.exe (included in Windows) to locate and delete these registry entries.

A key in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\ named "CNBar.Activater", plus associated values.
A key in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\ named "CNBar.BandSink", plus associated values.
A key in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\ named "CNBar.CNBarBand", plus associated values.
A key in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\ named "CNBar.ExplorerBar", plus associated values.
A key in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\ named "CNForm.CNBarHelper", plus associated values.
A key in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\ named "CNForm.History", plus associated values.
A key in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\ named "BabeIE.AgentIE", plus associated values.
A key in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\ named "BabeIE.Handler", plus associated values.
A key in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\ named "BabeIE.Helper", plus associated values.
A key in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\ named "Winnet.Update", plus associated values.
Delete the registry key "{00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000}" at "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\".
Delete the registry key "{2EB3EFF2-F707-4EA8-81AA-4B65D2799F31}" at "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\".
Delete the registry key "{6656b666-992f-4d74-8588-8ca69e97d90c}" at "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\".
Delete the registry key "{9346A6BB-1ED0-4174-AFB4-13CD4EC0AA40}" at "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\".
Delete the registry key "{2D0F5208-3198-49A4-86A7-D65E9E582751}" at "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Interface\".
Delete the registry key "{8ADBBE3E-1841-4708-85DF-727CCEE6220B}" at "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Interface\".
Delete the registry key "{99908473-1135-4009-BE4F-32B921F86ED9}" at "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Interface\".
Delete the registry key "{CC364A32-D59B-4E9C-9156-F0050C45005B}" at "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\TypeLib\".
Delete the registry key "cn" at "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\PROTOCOLS\Handler\".
Delete the registry key "{00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000}" at "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\explorer\Browser Helper Objects\".
Delete the registry key "{6656B666-992F-4D74-8588-8CAC9E79D90C}" at "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\explorer\Browser Helper Objects\".
Delete the registry key "{A6475E6B-3C2E-4B1F-82FD-8F1C0B1D8AD0}" at "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\explorer\Browser Helper Objects\".
A key with a likely random name in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Typelibs\ that has "CNBar2 1.0 Type Library" as its default value data.
A key with a likely random name in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Typelibs\ that has "CNForm 1.0 Type Library" as its default value data.
A key with a likely random name in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Typelibs\ that has "BabeIE2 1.0 Type Library" as its default value data.
Delete the registry key "{D879D743-E2CC-4161-8034-2234203681C9}" at "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\TypeLib\".
Delete the registry key "{9656B666-992F-4D74-8588-8CA69E97D90C}" at "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Code Store Database\Distribution Units\".
Delete the registry key "{6656B666-992F-4D74-8588-8CA69E97D90C}" at "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Code Store Database\Distribution Units\".
Delete the registry key "{118A2BFA-5AC7-4D29-BEB9-D68F4D2CCCAB}" at "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\AppID\".
Delete the registry key "winnet.EXE" at "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\AppID\".
Delete the registry key "CommonName" at "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\".
Delete the registry key "CommonName" at "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\".
Delete the registry key "CommonName" at "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\AdvancedOptions\".
The key "CNForm.EXE" at HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\AppID\.
The key "CNForm" at HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\AppID\.
Delete the registry key "Zenet" at "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shared Tools\MSConfig\startupreg\".
If CommonName uses rootkit technologies, use our RegAlyzer (http://www.safer-networking.org/index.php?page=regalyzer), RootAlyzer (http://forums.spybot.info/downloads.php?id=8) or our Total Commander anti-rootkit plugins (http://forums.spybot.info/downloads.php?id=3).

Browser:

The following browser plugins or items can either be removed directly in your browser, or through the help of e.g. Spybot-S&D (http://www.safer-networking.org/index.php?page=spybotsd) or RunAlyzer (http://www.safer-networking.org/index.php?page=runalyzer).

Please remove Browser Helpers named "BabeIE".
Look for ActiveX software installed from "www.commonname.com".
Please remove Browser Helpers named "CommonName".
Look for Internet Explorer extensions named "CommonName".
Please check your bookmarks for links to "www.commonname.com".

Special Parts:

There are more tricky parts of this threat that cannot be easily described in words.

Possibly malicious network drivers are monitoring your complete network traffic.
