The following instructions have been created to help you to get rid of "DotComToolbar" manually.
Use this guide at your own risk; software should usually be better suited to remove malware, since it is able to look deeper.

Description:
It installs an toolbar for the internet explorer and hijacks your Internet Explorer startpage and searchassistent.
Removal Instructions:

Autorun:

Please use Spybot-S&D (http://www.safer-networking.org/index.php?page=spybotsd), RunAlyzer (http://www.safer-networking.org/index.php?page=runalyzer) or msconfig.exe to remove the following autorun entries.

Entries named "redirect" and pointing to "*\redirect*.exe".

Installed Software List:

You can try to uninstall products with the names listed below; for items identified by other properties or to avoid malware getting active again on uninstallation, use Spybot-S&D (http://www.safer-networking.org/index.php?page=spybotsd) or RunAlyzer (http://www.safer-networking.org/index.php?page=runalyzer) to locate and get rid of these entries.

Products that have a key or property named "DotComToolbarDotComToolbar".

Files:

Please use Windows Explorer or another file manager of your choice to locate and delete these files.

The file at "<$WINDIR>\logo.bmp".
The file at "<$WINDIR>\logo.gif".
The file at "<$WINDIR>\logo2.gif".
The file at "<$WINDIR>\nav.bmp".
The file at "<$WINDIR>\nav_hot.bmp".
The file at "<$WINDIR>\version.txt".
The file at "<$WINDIR>\DotComToolbar.asp".
The file at "<$SYSDIR>\logo.bmp".
The file at "<$SYSDIR>\logo.gif".
The file at "<$SYSDIR>\logo2.gif".
The file at "<$SYSDIR>\nav.bmp".
The file at "<$SYSDIR>\nav_hot.bmp".
The file at "<$SYSDIR>\version.txt".
The file at "<$SYSDIR>\DotComToolbar.asp".
The file at "c:\logo.bmp".
The file at "c:\logo.gif".
The file at "c:\logo2.gif".
The file at "c:\nav.bmp".
The file at "c:\nav_hot.bmp".
The file at "c:\version.txt".
The file at "c:\DotComToolbar.asp".
A file with an unknown location named "redirect.exe".
A file with an unknown location named "RenameDll.exe".
Make sure you set your file manager to display hidden and system files. If DotComToolbar uses rootkit technologies, use our RootAlyzer (http://forums.spybot.info/downloads.php?id=8) or our Total Commander anti-rootkit plugins (http://forums.spybot.info/downloads.php?id=3).
You will have to use a global search for files without a name specified. Be extra careful, because just the name might not be enough to identify files!

Important: There are more files that cannot be safely described in simple words. Please use Spybot-S&D (http://www.safer-networking.org/index.php?page=spybotsd) to remove them.

Registry:

You can use regedit.exe (included in Windows) to locate and delete these registry entries.

Delete the registry key "DotComToolbar" at "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\".
Delete the registry key "{29DD1EA6-1FDA-44A4-B083-C9900547BC48}" at "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\".
Delete the registry key "{7C479D09-1280-41D2-945F-2377736B8CF7}" at "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Interface\".
A key in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\ named "ToolBand.hits", plus associated values.
Delete the registry key "{15ADF205-4C54-4cfe-AC88-1EA0BA6D06A0}" at "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\".
Delete the registry key "{E82B51A7-F2FE-4cc9-897D-447F4D38586F}" at "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\".
Delete the registry key "{71B519A3-3A99-4EB9-93F5-CAB2BE9F764C}" at "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Interface\".
Delete the registry key "{A677A03A-6D4D-45DC-ADE6-74C3F5A02AD6}" at "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Interface\".
Delete the registry key "{EB101E89-961B-4C6B-A94A-EC1C30F5FC57}" at "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\TypeLib\".
Delete the registry key "ScanBar" at "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ScanBar\".
Delete the registry value "{15ADF205-4C54-4cfe-AC88-1EA0BA6D06A0}" at "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar\".
Delete the registry value "{15ADF205-4C54-4CFE-AC88-1EA0BA6D06A0}" at "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar\WebBrowser\".
If DotComToolbar uses rootkit technologies, use our RegAlyzer (http://www.safer-networking.org/index.php?page=regalyzer), RootAlyzer (http://forums.spybot.info/downloads.php?id=8) or our Total Commander anti-rootkit plugins (http://forums.spybot.info/downloads.php?id=3).
