The following instructions have been created to help you to get rid of "SubSearch" manually.
Use this guide at your own risk; software should usually be better suited to remove malware, since it is able to look deeper.

Files:

Please use Windows Explorer or another file manager of your choice to locate and delete these files.

The file at "<$SYSDIR>\SBSRCH_V2.DLL".
The file at "<$SYSDIR>\SBSRCH_V21.DLL".
The file at "<$SYSDIR>\SBSRCH_V22.DLL".
Make sure you set your file manager to display hidden and system files. If SubSearch uses rootkit technologies, use our RootAlyzer (http://forums.spybot.info/downloads.php?id=8) or our Total Commander anti-rootkit plugins (http://forums.spybot.info/downloads.php?id=3).
You will have to use a global search for files without a name specified. Be extra careful, because just the name might not be enough to identify files!

Registry:

You can use regedit.exe (included in Windows) to locate and delete these registry entries.

Delete the registry key "{1D870C86-AA3C-4451-81E4-71D480A1A652}" at "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\explorer\Browser Helper Objects\".
Delete the registry key "{31995C64-CB4D-483E-82C2-CCFFE2F66CAB}" at "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\explorer\Browser Helper Objects\".
Delete the registry key "{4C4871FD-30F6-4430-8834-BC75D58F1529}" at "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\explorer\Browser Helper Objects\".
Delete the registry key "{77F1268B-6C19-4C61-962D-54691A128CD2}" at "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\explorer\Browser Helper Objects\".
Delete the registry key "{90DA654C-083C-11D6-8A9D-0050BA8452C0}" at "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\explorer\Browser Helper Objects\".
Delete the registry key "{D9A5A49C-60EB-4C07-8570-8FB8FE825E7C}" at "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\explorer\Browser Helper Objects\".
Delete the registry key "{1D870C86-AA3C-4451-81E4-71D480A1A652}" at "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\".
Delete the registry key "{4C4871FD-30F6-4430-8834-BC75D58F1529}" at "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\".
Delete the registry key "{77F1268B-6C19-4C61-962D-54691A128CD2}" at "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\".
Delete the registry key "IeMsnSbSrch_1" at "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\VB and VBA Program Settings\".
Delete the registry key "{53E10C2C-43B2-4657-BA29-AAE179E7D35C}" at "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Code Store Database\Distribution Units\".
If SubSearch uses rootkit technologies, use our RegAlyzer (http://www.safer-networking.org/index.php?page=regalyzer), RootAlyzer (http://forums.spybot.info/downloads.php?id=8) or our Total Commander anti-rootkit plugins (http://forums.spybot.info/downloads.php?id=3).

Browser:

The following browser plugins or items can either be removed directly in your browser, or through the help of e.g. Spybot-S&D (http://www.safer-networking.org/index.php?page=spybotsd) or RunAlyzer (http://www.safer-networking.org/index.php?page=runalyzer).
