hi,

this monday i gained SPYWAREQUAKE and MEDIA-CODEC and VCODEC and a few others along the way.

i followed all instructions as in another post on how to remove them, many thanks for the addvice. use avg free which caught 2 other things in the backup files. i have deleted all of the backup files to try and get rid of the bad stuff. ewido also found some items there too. i have deleted ewido from my pc now, run spybot1.4 and avg free, nothing else is showing up anymore and my interenet homepage has remained at its proper setting since cleaning.

still getting slow internet pages and sometimes freeze ups, but this might be my bad conection, slow etc...

would someone please check my files and let me know if im ok??

thanks in advance.

Please hold that Spybot report for a few days, then you can delete it.

Hi Mark, there are a couple of lines left, one is from the infection. We will remove those in a moment. First a few comments.

ewido is a good free scanner which you can keep and update for as long as you like. If you do not purchase it, I suggest turning it off completely and running it manually when you need it, if you have the hard drive space for it.

still getting slow internet pages and sometimes freeze ups, but this might be my bad conection, slow etc...I would check with the ISP on this and have them test your connection. The infection may have modified some of your settings? Here is a good link for troubleshooting IE issue:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/IE/community/columns/IEtopten.mspx

Run all routine maintenance programs and also run SFC to make sure all system files are in place and not corrupt:
Click Start>Run, type in sfc /scannow, hit Enter.
Note: there is a space between sfc and /scannow
This should replace any corrupted/missing system files and will hopefully fix things. You may need your XP disc in your CD drive for this.

Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

O2 - BHO: Nothing - {edbf1bc8-39ab-48eb-a0a9-c75078eb7c8e} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\hp6AD3.tmp (file missing)
O9 - Extra button: (no name) - {CD67F990-D8E9-11d2-98FE-00C0F0318AFE} - (no file)

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

If you do not have a routine for cleaning the Prefetch, I suggest this: C:\Windows\Prefetch\ >>> delete the contents (NOT THE FOLDER)
Prefetch info: http://www.windowsnetworking.com/articles_tutorials/Gaining-Speed-Empty-Prefetch-XP.html
You may have to unhide Prefetch.

If you don't have a good cleaner, use this free one with these instructions:
Download CCleaner from this link: http://www.ccleaner.com/ Review the instructions http://www.ccleaner.com/help/tour1.asp
Run CCleaner, Windows & Applications when you run the registry cleaner (Issues) you will be prompted to backup before you can remove stuff, make sure you do.

No need to post again unless you feel you still have issues or questions.

Safe surfing...Phil:bigthumb:
