Hello...

I cannot seem to get rid of this. When I run the Spybot scan and fix problems Spybot cannot fix this. I get a window that states it is still in use in Windows memory and can possibly be fixed on the next start up. But on the next start up it still cannot be fixed. Hopefully, someone can help. I ran a virus scan with AVG and came up with nothing. I am unable to download a Spybot update. Says Bad checksum!!! (could that be because of my dial up connection? High speed is not available in my area.) My highjack this is posted as follows. If there is any more info you need just let me know. Thanks, alot.

Hi

What version of spybot are you using ? 1.3 ?

Update to version 1.4 and it should be resolved...

You also have a vundo infection...

Please download VundoFix.exe (http://www.atribune.org/ccount/click.php?id=4) to your desktop.
1. Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
2. Put a check next to Run VundoFix as a task.
3. You will receive a message saying vundofix will close and re-open in a minute or less. Click OK
4. When VundoFix re-opens - Click the "Scan for Vundo" button.
5. Once it's done scanning, click the "Remove Vundo" button.
6. You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click "YES".
7. Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
8. When completed, VundoFix will prompt that it will shutdown your computer; click "OK".
9. Turn your computer back on.
10. Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt and a new HiJackThis log.

Hello, steam....

Thank you for responding to my issue. I am running version 1.4. I have no problems fixing issues except for the issue at hand. Upon fixing problems, I get a window that states..."Some problems couldn't be fixed; the reason could be that the associated files are in use (in memory.) This could be fixed after a restart. May Spybot S&D run on your next start up?" Upon a restart, the same problem exists. (I've even attempted to fix is Safe Mode.) The problem exists in C:\Windows\nsidm.txt and C:\Windows\nfosd.dat.

Anyhow, I followed your instructions with the VundoFix. Here are the requested logs. Thanks for everything.

Dani

Thanks, steam...

Unfortunately, I've been called away to business and am away from my pc. As soon as I get home I will follow your instructions and let you know how all comes out.

All you've done for me is so appreciated.

Hello, steam...

I followed your last instructions. I was able to download the updated SpyBot file. I ran a Spybot Check and unfortunately came back with the same problem with: "The problem exists in C:\Windows\nsidm.txt and C:\Windows\nfosd.dat."

I've posted a new HJT log.

Thanks,
Dani

Hi

Your hijackthis log is clean now....

Have you tried looking for these files on your computer ?

C:\Windows\nsidm.txt
C:\Windows\nfosd.dat

What exactly does spybot say about these files ?

Can you post the part of the spybot log which mentions them please...

You should be able to just delete them manually, but I'm curious as to exactly what they are, could you please copy them into a folder, zip it, send it to me here for closer inspection...

steamwizAThelp2go.com ... replace AT with @

Thanks

steam

Good Morning, steam....

I have looked at the specific files on my pc. I do not understand them. I did copy and zip them to the best of my ability and will send them after posting this.

As far as spybot...it doesn't really say alot about the files. This is what I have that mentions the files in question:

CoolWWWSearch.HomeSearch: Data (File, fixing failed)
C:\WINDOWS\nfosd.dat

CoolWWWSearch.HomeSearch: Data (File, fixing failed)

This is what I'm told when I attempt to fix the problems:

..."Some problems couldn't be fixed; the reason could be that the associated files are in use (in memory.) This could be fixed after a restart. May Spybot S&D run on your next start up?"

Thanks, again...

Hi

Thanks, I got the files..

I can tell you this much, they are not a txt and dat file, it is the same file hiding with these extensions...it is most likely an executable .exe file .. if you were to change the extension to exe and click on it, you would most probably get a full blown CWS infection .. DON'T mess with them...

There is or probably was at some time another file instructing one of these files to be copied to a certain location as an exe file and then run...

See if you can right click on the files and delete them

Also I see at some time during the cleanup you have installed EWIDO... please update EWIDO, boot to safemode and run a scan...

If EWIDO finds anything, please save and post the log...

I also ran a spybot scan in safemode and came back clean. Although I am using a dial-up connection, my system is working alot faster. I greatly appreciate your assistance. I've been fighting this problem for quite sometime.

With gratitude,
Dani:bigthumb:
