PS: this is the first time I post stuff. (Took me an hour to figure out how to start my new post) But how do I keep up with responses? In "additional options", I picked "instant email notification".
Thanks

Hi Ken545,
first of all thank you and your friends for the voluntary work you do, it's really tremendous.
One note: After posting my 1st post, Firefox stopped working (would hang looking for address) so I freaked out and called an IT guy who wasn't familiar w/virtumonde but said to try downloading and run Malwarebytes in safe mode after turning off system restore. Machine seemed cleaned up after that, but line O20 was still present in HijackThis when I followed your instructions just now.
Thanks,
bernardr

Don't see any 020 entry but these need to go, make sure you turn on System Restore, its kind of suicidal running fixes with it turned off. Do not proceed fixing anything before you turn it back on and create a new Restore Point.
O4 - HKUS\S-1-5-19\..\Run: [nuhuvujugo] Rundll32.exe "C:\WINDOWS\system32\lasobemo.dll",s (User 'LOCAL SERVICE')
O4 - HKUS\S-1-5-20\..\Run: [nuhuvujugo] Rundll32.exe "C:\WINDOWS\system32\lasobemo.dll",s (User 'NETWORK SERVICE')
Turn ON System Restore.
Right-click My Computer.
ClickProperties.
Click the System Restore tab.
UN-Check Turn off System Restore on all Drives.
Click Apply, and then click OK.
Create a new Restore Point <-- Very Important
Click Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools, and then click System Restore.
Download ComboFix from one of these locations:
Link 1 (http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe)
Link 2 (http://www.forospyware.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe)
Link 3 (http://subs.geekstogo.com/ComboFix.exe)
* IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop
Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools
See this Link (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic114351.html) for programs that need to be disabled and instruction on how to disable them.
Remember to re-enable them when we're done.
Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.
As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.
Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.
**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.
http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c30/ken545/RcAuto1.gif
Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:
http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c30/ken545/whatnext.jpg
Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.
When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply along with a New Hijackthis log.
*If there is no internet connection when Combofix has completely finished then restart your computer to restore back the connections.

Hi, did as you said.
But after reboot by combofix, my antivirus/firewall prgrm zonealarm kept asking me what to do about the files below. I kept pressing "deny", I hope it was the right thing to do.
"catchme.tmp is attempting to monitor activity" (several times)
"NirCmd is trying to launch c:\windows\system32\rundll32.dll" (also several times, or "... trying to communicate with hp\kbd\kbd.exe")
"hidec.exe..."
"pv.cfexe trying to communicate w/explorer.exe"
Again, all these denied, but without checking box for remembering for next time, so they'll probably pop up again next reboot.
thanks,bernard

Hello Bernard,
Listen, I know being infected with this garbage is very frustrating to say the least, but you need to read though the instructions before proceeding with any of the fixes, there was a link in the Combofix instructions that told you what programs to disable, your AV and Firewall should have been. Most of what you denied where related to your printer.
You need to enable windows to Show All Files and Folders
Instructions for your Operating System Here (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial62.html)
c:\windows\system32\pedisasa.dll <--- Delete this file, let me know if it won't delete.
Everything else looks fine :bigthumb: How is your system running now????

Hi Ken,
thanks for your patience
I did look at your link above ("how to temporarily disable av, firewall...") if this is what you mean. So I did disable ZoneAlarm, but it restarts on reboot. Also Spybot teatimer. Other prgrms I may have are not in the tray/background, I don't think.
pedisasa.dll got deleted, still wasn't there after reboot.
Firefox works, and no more hijacking of it or internet explorer, and the machine seems full speed.
So that's it? Do you recommend uninstalling these programs HiJack, ATF cleaner, ComboFix?
Do you recommend using a malware prgrm in realtime? (in which case remove other malware prgrms? I have 3 now...)
Thanks again,
Bernard
Hey Bernard,
Post one last HJT log so I can have a final look and make sure nothing has returned, if your log is ok I will give you a clean up procedure along with links to free programs to install to help keep you more secure.
Ken...who is glad things are running well. :bigthumb:

Looking Good :bigthumb:
Your Java is out of date and leaving your system vulnerable.
Go to your Add-Remove Programs in the Control Panel and uninstall any previous versions of Java (J2SE Runtime Environment)
It should have an icon next to it:
http://users.telenet.be/bluepatchy/miekiemoes/images/javaicon.jpg
Select it and click Remove.
Reboot your system.
Then go to the Sun Microsystems (http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp) and install the update
Java SE Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 11 <--This is what you need to download and install.
If you chose the online installation, it will prompt you to run the program.
If you chose the offline installation, you will be prompted to save the file and you can run it from wherever you saved it.
Then after install you can verify your installation here Sun Java Verify (http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp)
I like to to do the offline installation and save the setup file in case I may need it in the future
ATF Cleaner <-- Yours to keep, run it now and then to clean out the clutter.
Malwarebytes <-- Yours to keep also, check for updates and run a scan now and then.
Hijackthis <---Your call, hopefully you won't need it again, if you do you can redownload it
Combofix <---Is not a general cleaning tool, just run it with supervision or you can bork your system
Click START then RUN
Now type Combofix /u in the runbox and click OK. Note the space between the X and the U, it needs to be there.

When shown the disclaimer, Select "2"
The above procedure will:
Delete the following:
ComboFix and its associated files and folders.
VundoFix backups, if present
The C:\Deckard folder, if present
The C:_OtMoveIt folder, if present
Reset the clock settings.
Hide file extensions, if required.
Hide System/Hidden files, if required.
Reset System Restore.
How did I get infected in the first place ? Read these links and find out how to prevent getting infected again.
Tutorial for System Restore (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial56.html) <-- Do this first to prevent yourself from being reinfected.

Dslreports (http://www.dslreports.com/faq/10002)
Keep in mind if you install some of these programs. Only ONE Anti Virus and only ONE Firewall is recommended, more is overkill and can cause you problems. You can install all the Spyware programs I have listed without any problems. If you install Spyware Blaster, you can still install Spybot Search and Destroy but do not enable the TeaTimer in Spybot.
Here are some free programs to install, all free and highly regarded by the fine people in the Malware Removal Community
Spybot Search and Destroy 1.6 (http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/)
Check for Updates/ Immunize and run a Full System Scan on a regular basis. If you install Spyware Blaster ( Recommended ) then do not enable the TeaTimer in Spybot Search and Destroy.
Spyware Blaster (http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html) It will prevent most spyware from ever being installed. No scan to run, just update about once a week and enable all protection.
Spyware Guard (http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareguard.html) It offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts, again, no scan to run, just install it and let it do its thing.
IE-Spyad (http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/file/fid,23332-order,1-page,1-c,antispywaretools/description.html)
IE-Spyad places over 6000 web sites and domains in the IE Restricted list which will severely impair attempts to infect your system. It basically prevents any downloads (cookies etc) from the sites listed, although you will still be able to connect to the sites.
Firefox 3 (http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/) It has more features and is a lot more secure than IE. It is a very easy and painless download and install, it will no way interfere with IE, you can use them both.
Safe Surfn
