MyWay.MyWebSearch problem

[wietelcutt]

I can't get rid of it. I followed a few instructions left for others but it won't leave. My system is slow. I have run Spybot and AVG so far. I finally added Highjackthis (sp) and here is my log...I have spent 2 days trying to get it out of my computer. Can anyone help me?

It is advisable that you back up your personal data before starting any clean up procedure.




Do this first...Important

Disable the TeaTimer, leave it disabled until we're done or it will prevent fixes from taking

Run Spybot-S&D in Advanced Mode.
If it is not already set to do this Go to the Mode menu select "Advanced Mode"
On the left hand side, Click on Tools
Then click on the Resident Icon in the List
Uncheck "Resident TeaTimer" and OK any prompts.
Restart your computer.<--You need to do this for it to take effect






Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from Here (http://www.majorgeeks.com/Malwarebytes_Anti-Malware_d5756.html) or Here (http://www.besttechie.net/tools/mbam-setup.exe)

Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.

Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan.
The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.<-- Don't forget this
When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart
The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
Copy and Paste the entire report in your next reply along with a New Hijackthis log.

Hello,

Cant read your HJT log the way you posted it, you need to turn off wordwrap in Notepad.


Open HJT Scan and Save a Log File, it will open in Notepad
Go to Format and make sure Wordwrap is Unchecked
Go to Edit> Select All.....Edit > Copy and Paste the new log into this thread by using the Post Reply and not start a New Thread.

Hello Tom

I know if your not used these things they can be confusing, you posted the Malwarebytes log correctly both times and this time you also posted your Hijackthis log correctly :bigthumb:

Go back and look at Post # 3 and you will see how the lines in your HJT log do not line up correctly, makes it real hard to diagnose but your last log you posted was posted correctly, it also looks fine :bigthumb:

You can run this cleaner to clean out the cobwebs in your system.

Please download ATF Cleaner (http://www.atribune.org/ccount/click.php?id=1) by Atribune to your desktop.

Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Under Main choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.Your system may start up slower after running ATF Cleaner, this is expected but will be back to normal after the first or second boot up
Please note: If you use online banking or are registered online with any other organizations, ensure you have memorized password and other personal information as removing cookies will temporarily disable the auto-login facility.





Your Java is out of date and leaving your system vulnerable.
Go to your Add-Remove Programs in the Control Panel and uninstall any previous versions of Java (J2SE Runtime Environment)
It should have an icon next to it:

Select it and click Remove.
Reboot your system.
Then go to the Sun Microsystems (http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp) and install the update
Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 11 <--This is what you need to download and install.
If you chose the online installation, it will prompt you to run the program.
If you chose the offline installation, you will be prompted to save the file and you can run it from wherever you saved it.
Then after install you can verify your installation here Sun Java Verify (http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp)
I like to to do the offline installation and save the setup file in case I may need it in the future



Everything else looks fine, how are things running now???? If you could get back to me as soon as you can and let me know I would appreciate it as I will be offline for about 2 weeks starting tomorrow.

Well..I did it and things do run a bit slow. I still can't seem to get Windows Media Player to stream radio. Before the MyWay.MyWebSearch problem it worked just fine. When I did a restore it worked until I re-booted. Could this mean that Media Player is not compatible with Firefox or is it still the bug? I sure appreciate your help. If I don't hear back from you, you have a great Christmas and I will check back in a couple of weeks.

Tom,

Windows Media Player is compatible with Firefox, even thought your log looks fine there could be more of an infection we can't see. Lets do this.


Download ComboFix from one of these locations:

* IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop


Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools
See this Link (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic114351.html) for programs that need to be disabled and instruction on how to disable them.
Remember to re-enable them when we're done.


Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.


As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.


Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.

**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.

Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:

Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.

When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply along with a New Hijackthis log.

*If there is no internet connection when Combofix has completely finished then restart your computer to restore back the connections.



I will get back to you as soon as I can, if Combofix does not clean anything and finds nothing bad than I will link you to some windows support sites to help fix your issue.
