Welcome to Safer Networking, I wish to be sure you have viewed and understand this information.
"BEFORE you POST" (READ this Procedure before Requesting Assistance) http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=288
All advice given is taken at your own risk.
Please make sure you have read this information so we are on the same page.

Make sure you read and follow the directions, anything else will slow the process and waste both of our time. I suggest you keep this computer offline except when troubleshooting, the junk may download more. If you have any tool I use, delete it and download it new from the link I provide. Read and follow the directions carefully, the tools will not work unless you do.
The junk can be tough to remove, so do not expect fast or easy.

Mike, I will try to help but please read those directions which I posted above and are pinned (stickY) to the top of this forum. You should know by now that you shot yourself in the foot making those multiple posts.

Posting additional comments or logs before a volunteer responds, can push you back instead of forward, because your thread ends up with a newer date. Also, helpers may think you are already being assisted because of the post count.

1) "I also use AVG Free Edition if it can be of any use in helping removal?"
I run AVG 8 free myself, why are you running an out of date version?

2) C:\Program Files\DNA\btdna.exe <<< uninstall all p2p programs from the computer, see this:
http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=282

If your helper detects the presence of such programs on your computer he/she will ask you to remove them. Help will be withdrawn should you not agree to their removal.

3) I am seeing what appears to be multiple infections, if you still need help, please read and follow all directions carefully. We will start like this.

4) Thanks to andymanchesta and anyone else who helped with the fix.

Download SDFix and save it to your Desktop
http://downloads.andymanchesta.com/RemovalTools/SDFix.exe

Double click SDFix.exe and it will extract the files to %systemdrive%
(Drive that contains the Windows Directory, typically C:\SDFix)

Please then reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
Restart your computer
After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
Instead of Windows loading as normal, the Advanced Options Menu should appear;
Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press Enter.
Choose your usual account.
Open the extracted SDFix folder and double click RunThis.bat to start the script.
Type Y to begin the cleanup process.
It will remove any Trojan Services and Registry Entries that it finds then prompt you to press any key to Reboot.
Press any Key and it will restart the PC.
When the PC restarts the Fixtool will run again and complete the removal process then display Finished, press any key to end the script and load your desktop icons.
Once the desktop icons load the SDFix report will open on screen and also save into the SDFix folder as Report.txt
(Report.txt will also be copied to Clipboard ready for posting back on the forum).
Finally post the contents of the Report.txt back on the forum with a new HijackThis log

4) Post also an uninstall list:
Post an uninstall list: Open Hijackthis.
Click the "Open the Misc Tools" section Button.
Click the "Open Uninstall Manager" Button.
Click the "Save list..." Button.
Save it to your desktop. Copy and paste the contents into your reply.

This is just a start

Thanks...Phil

As for the uninstall list - everytime I press Save List it just closes down. I never get an option of where to save it...

Thanks for returning your information and the feedback, you said:

I didnt know my AVG was out of date
We will get the malware first, and then I can give you some help with the update.

SDFix removed the trojan we were after, you may delete that program from the computer. I can tell from what SDFix removed that you have a nasty infection which SDFix likely can not completely remove.

Wait on the uninstall list, once combofix has run you should be able to post it then.

A word of warning: Neither I nor sUBs are responsible for any damage you may have caused your machine by running ComboFix on your own. This tool is not a toy and not for everyday use

Download ComboFix from one of these locations:

Link 1 (http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe)
Link 2 (http://www.forospyware.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe)
Link 3 (http://subs.geekstogo.com/ComboFix.exe)

* IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop

Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools
See this Link (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic114351.html) for programs that need to be disabled and instruction on how to disable them.
Remember to re-enable them when we're done.

Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.

As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.

Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.

**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.

http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c30/ken545/RcAuto1.gif

Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:

http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c30/ken545/whatnext.jpg

Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.

When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply along with a New Hijackthis log.

*If there is no internet connection when Combofix has completely finished then restart your computer to restore back the connections.

I have a very touch and go internet connection here, it cut off when I started to download windows recovery consol so it didnt finish. Combofix started to do it's thing automatically after that and after all the warnings I didnt wanna stop it! So basically it ran without the recovery consol. I hope thats not made things difficult or anything?

Combofix Log:

Thanks for returning your information and the feedback. I suggest you make sure the Recovery Console get's installed before we finish, it is to your advantage if you do not have a Windows XP CD with it on. Here is some information so you can understand how important it can be.
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314058
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307654
Recovery Console is a tool that will allow you to recover from a catastrophic system failure, so let's hope you never need it. Many experts believe Microsoft should have installed it by default.

Are you 100% positive the removable media you are using is not infected?

Moving on to the cleanup, please read and follow all directions carefully and in the numbered order.

1) Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune
http://www.atribune.org/public-beta/ATF-Cleaner.exe
Save it to your Desktop. We will use this later.

2) Open notepad and copy/paste the text in the codebox below into it:

Registry::
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\windows nt\currentversion\windows]
"AppInit_DLLs"=-

[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\explorer\mountpoints2\{a2044a21-6549-11da-a5a1-806d6172696f}]

Save this as CFScript

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v666/sUBs/CFScriptB-4.gif

Referring to the picture above, drag CFScript into ComboFix.exe.

This will start ComboFix again. After reboot, (in case it asks to reboot), post the contents of Combofix.txt in your next reply together with a new HijackThis log. (wait until you finish to post the logs)

3) Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

O15 - Trusted Zone: *.antimalwareguard.com
O15 - Trusted Zone: *.antispyexpert.com
O15 - Trusted Zone: *.gomyhit.com
O15 - Trusted Zone: *.imagesrvr.com
O15 - Trusted Zone: *.spyguardpro.com
O15 - Trusted Zone: *.storageguardsoft.com
O15 - Trusted Zone: *.antimalwareguard.com (HKLM)
O15 - Trusted Zone: *.antispyexpert.com (HKLM)
O15 - Trusted Zone: *.gomyhit.com (HKLM)
O15 - Trusted Zone: *.imageservr.com (HKLM)
O15 - Trusted Zone: *.imagesrvr.com (HKLM)
O15 - Trusted Zone: *.spyguardpro.com (HKLM)
O15 - Trusted Zone: *.storageguardsoft.com (HKLM)
O20 - AppInit_DLLs: gerhml.dll

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

4) Run ATF Cleaner
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Click Select All found at the bottom of the list.
Click the Empty Selected button.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

*Cleaning Prefetch may result in a few slow starts until the folder is repopulated:
http://www.windowsnetworking.com/articles_tutorials/Gaining-Speed-Empty-Prefetch-XP.html

5) Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your Desktop
http://www.malwarebytes.org/

* Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
* Be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
* If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
* Once the program has loaded, select Perform FULL SCAN, then click Scan.
* When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
* Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
* When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location. The log can also be opened by going to Start > All Programs > Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware > Logs > log-date.txt
* Please post the log from CFScript, the log from MBAM and a new HJT log.

Note: If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts. Click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process. If asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately. Failure to reboot will prevent MBAM from removing all the malware.

How is the computer running?

Thanks

Just a quick one before we move on.

I'll download the recovery consol - it does seem to be important! I take it I just install it then run it everytime I'm going to do something risky?

Aaaand im going to sound like an idiot but... what do you mean by "Are you 100% positive the removable media you are using is not infected?".

Let's concentrate on the malware and concern ourselves with RC once the computer is clean.

Aaaand im going to sound like an idiot but... what do you mean by "Are you 100% positive the removable media you are using is not infected?".
Well...I have no way of knowing, could you have transfered the infection with it, you have used one as I removed the mountpoint to be sure. If you don't know if it is clean, you may want to reformat or is it is a flashdrive, disinfect it OR you may want to toss it in the garbage to be sure.

Oh right you mean the USB drive? I just formatted it and scanned it with SB and AVG and it came up clean. I have an external harddrive too - I havent used it for a couple of days but I think i have used it since being infected - I'll give that a scan too...

Hmm, scanning my hard drive looks like its gonna take a LONG time, i'll do it overnight or something. Well, it's all looking good right now, Malwarebyte found and removed 38 infections. I can tell straight away its improved. Everytime i entered something into a search box on google or youtube etc... a new window would open, presumably from the malware - and that seems to have stopped. Also I couldnt turn on automatic update before and now I can!

Oh and Recovery Consol managed to install when I used ComboFix this time!

Here are the new logs you wanted:

Ah and one more thing you might need to know - you told me to check the box next to "O20 - AppInit_DLLs: gerhml.dll" on the Hijackthis manual system scan. I got all the others but that particular file didnt appear on the list. Just thought you might need to know....

Sorry for the wait, the forum was down as you are probably aware if you tried to get in.

Thanks for returning your information and the feedback. Almost all of what MBAM found was quarantined in combofix and infected System Restore files we will address as soon as we get AVG updated. Those items can not harm you, do not use System Restore for any reason until we reset it.
"O20 - AppInit_DLLs: gerhml.dll" <<< don't be concerned, the CFScript got it before you could.

Let's install AVG 8:

I have found this is the best was to update to AVG 8. You can save some resources if you can use this tutorial.
How to Install Free version AVG 8.0 without LinkScanner feature
http://russelltexas.com/tutorials/avg8install.htm

1) Download the installer to your Desktop from here,
http://free.grisoft.com/ww.download-avg-anti-virus-free-edition
make sure you choose the right download AVG Free.
Once you have the installer on the Desktop, then take the computer offline so you are not online with no antivirus protection.

2) Uninstall AVG 7 in Add Remove programs, restart the computer.

3) Click on the installer on the Desktop and follow the prompts. Once installed:

*Right click the icon for AVG in System Tray and choose Open AVG User Interface.

*Click on Update now, allow AVG to download and install any new updates.

* Click on Computer Scanner then choose "Scan whole computer", this takes a round one hour on the computer I am using now.

* Near the bottom above the words "The scan is complete" choose "Export overview to file"

* Choose Desktop and give it a name you will recognize like AVG Scan Results, then choose SAVE.

* Close results and close the Interface.

* Copy and paste the contents of that file <<< I only need to see it if you have questions, here is good infomation:
FAQ: http://www.avg.com/faq
AVG Free Forum: http://freeforum.avg.com/

Once AVG 8 is installed, post a new HJT log and we will continue.

Thanks...Phil

Remove combofix from the computer like this:

Click START then RUN
Now type or copy Combofix /u in the runbox and click OK.
Note the space between the X and the U, it needs to be there.

Looks like the memory in TeaTimer returned some debris, let's do this:

http://downloads.subratam.org/ResetTeaTimer.bat <<< right click the link and choose "Save target as...
Download ResetTeaTimer.bat to the Desktop
Double click ResetTeaTimer.bat
to remove all entries set by TeaTimer (and preventing TeaTimer to restore them upon reactivation).

Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {27E20854-8B03-4C0F-8CC6-4163D30602EC} - (no file)

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

No need to post again.

Thanks

Hi,
I cant download that teatimer reset thingy. I only have the option to "Save Link As" rather than save target as, and doing that saves it as a text file which seems to do nothing.

That's a shame, I know of only one other way to remove that junk and you can just leave it if you wish. It is not malware, just registry leftovers being help by the memory in TeaTimer.
If you want it gone, then you will have to uninstall Spybot S&D completely in Add Remove programs. Restart the computer and use HJT to remove the items. Restart the computer and reinstall Spybot S&D.

Thanks
