View Full Version : Invincible Spyware
hey guys,
My computer is definately infected with something. The main problem is that my computer shuts down and will not reboot for at least a minute when... I try to perform any type of anti spyware scan...
I have tried: Ad-Aware, Ewido, Spybot D&D. Norton Antivirus runs a full system scan no problems.
The computer also does the same thing at other random times ie: playing a game or burning a cd. I have a desktop running windows xp and i have a high air flow casing which i have taken apart and double checked for dust..
Mozilla Firefox also closes down and asks if i want to send the info to windows every time i try to download save file to disk but i believe that is a different virus.
Here is my hijackThis log.

Once in safe mode, start Ewido AntiMalware
a. Click on scanner
b. Click on *complete system scan*
c. Let the program scan the machine.
d. While the scan is in progress you will be prompted to clean the first infected file it finds. Choose Remove, then put a check next to Perform action on all infections in the left corner of the box so you don't have to sit and watch Ewido the whole time.
Checkmark the box: *Create encrypted backup in the quarantine* (recommended)
Click OK.
When the scan finishes, click on "Save Report". This will create a text file. Make sure you know where to find this file again.
Reboot back into normal mode. Please scan once more with HijackThis to produce a fresh log. Post that back here, along with the Ewido scan log your saved earlier.
Hi,
I fix checked those files in HijackThis and i made sure my Ewido was updated before rebooting in safe mode. The first infected file detected was "Trojan Puper.ac" and then shortly after my computer switched itself off again. It is as if the plug has been pulled and the computer will not power up for around a minute
same as always...

Download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri) to your Desktop (Win2k/WinXP only!).
http://siri.urz.free.fr/Fix/SmitfraudFix.zip
Extract all the files to your Destop. A folder named SmitfraudFix will be created on your Desktop.
Reboot into Safe Mode
How to start the computer in Safe mode
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgen...src=sec_doc_nam (http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2001052409420406?OpenDocument&src=sec_doc_nam)
Open the SmitfraudFix folder and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #2 - Clean by typing 2 and press Enter.
Wait for the tool to complete and disk cleanup to finish.
You will be prompted : "Registry cleaning - Do you want to clean the registry ?" answer Yes by typing Y and hit Enter.
The tool will also check if wininet.dll is infected. If a clean version is found, you will be prompted to replace wininet.dll. Answer Yes to the question "Replace infected file ?" by typing Y and hit Enter.
A reboot may be needed to finish the cleaning process, if you computer does not restart automatically please do it yourself manually. You can reboot back to normal mode.
Then see if you can get through a scan with Ewido. Let me know.

The smitfraud program worked fine, however the computer shut itself down during disk cleanup. I tried many times in safe mode and in normal mode. In normal mode the computer did not shut itself down during disk cleanup but while i was in the process of rebooting.
The computer still shuts itself down during ewido scan in safe mode and in normal mode.

Your Hijackthis log is not providing any clues to the problem, I simply don't see any signs of malware there. I cannot determine what may be shutting down your computer, but it might not be a malware issue.
Try the Kaspersky free online scanner.
http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner
Copy the report at the end and post the results back here.
It will not remove anything found, but I just want to see the log results.
the computer switched off during the online scan also.
I feel that it is definately a malware issue as the computer stays on for very long periods of time usually while surfing the net, downloading music and all other activites but switches off during any scan of any type.
If you have no other ideas and cannot help me then i spose i cant do anything about it.
there is a suspicious file on my desktop however. The browser i usually use is mozilla firefox. In the past 2 weeks my firefox had stopped working properly, it would not open files and when i clicked to save it would save A file but then firefox would close and the window popped up asking me if i wanted to send the problem details to microsoft. There is one of those saved files on my desktop which i cannot remove as it is "being used by another person or program" (even in safe mode)
The name of it is "firefox Steup 1.5.0.2.exe" as i was trying to re install firefox but obviously something else is in it. In properties it says the file has a size of '0' bytes.
Here is some info i thought might be useful.
Program tab/Advanced/Windows PIF Settings/
Autoexec filename: %SystemRoot%\SYSTEM32\AUTOEXEC.NT
Config filename: %SystemRoot%\SYSTEM32\CONFIG.NT

Well, I was going by your statement in the first post that it was shutting down at random times:
The computer also does the same thing at other random times ie: playing a game or burning a cd.
We can try a few other diagnostic tools.
Please download Rootkit Revealer
http://www.sysinternals.com/utilities/rootkitrevealer.html
(link is at the very bottom of the page)
Unzip it to your desktop.
Open the rootkitrevealer folder and double-click rootkitrevealer.exe
Click the Scan button (bottom right)
It may take a while to scan (don't do anything else while it's running, please leave the machine idle while it scans)
When it's done, go up to File > Save. Choose to save it to your desktop.
Open rootkitrevealer.txt on your desktop and copy the entire contents and paste them here
.................................
Also get a log from this free tool please and post it:
Download Silent runners here (follow the instructions on that page)
http://www.silentrunners.org/sr_scriptuse.html
If you have antivirus script protection, please allow it (silentrunners.vbs) to run. While waiting, a box will say done.
Wait until there is a All Done message !!, Then open and post the log next to it.
P.S. Am not understanding your question about the Firefox setup file? Is firefox installed?
Firefox is installed but i have been using internet explorer as firefox isnt working properly, i spose the correct word is hijacked?
It opens internet pages fine, but when i click a target, a window should pop up asking if i want to save the file or open it. Nothing happens!.. When i right click the target and click save as (which is what i did to the firefox file to try and re-install it), Firefox closes down straight away and then an error window pops up asking if i want to send the error message to microsoft. An image of the file i tried to save appears on the desktop with the default .exe picture (little white screen with blue toolbar up top with 3 white dots top right), with the proper file name (firefox setup 1.5.0.2). In properties the size of the file is 0 bytes so i thought it was nothing.. When i try to delete the file in normal or safe mode it says i cannont delete it as it is being used by another person or program.
I suspect that a virus has duplicated itself into the file and is running therefore i cannot delete the file...

I can't find anything wrong in your logs. I suspect that you have a bad install of Firefox and need to uninstall it and get a fresh new download and see if it will reinstall properly. What you describe here is not usual malware behavior.
Then what explains the fact that my computer will stay on all the time when idle and when doing other activities but will shut down during any type of virus scan. Something is shutting the computer down momentarily as it is detected and i cannot remove it.
I tried saving another file with mozilla and it is stuck on desktop and i cannot delete it as it is saying that the file is in use. I suspect that there is a virus duplicating itself in my saved files. All files say that they are 0 bytes in size.
mozilla was working perfect until this started happening and i have not re installed it since. i have only tried to save a new install file, which would not save... etc.

I don't know what is causing your problem. All I can tell you is that I can't find any malware currently running causing the problem. The fact that you are using IE7 perhaps and/or whatever it was may have been on there and adversely affected your system somehow.
Did you try uninstall/reinstall firefox latest version?
Have you tried checking out the eventviewer logs for errors after the problem occurs?
Click Start -> Run -> eventvwr.msc
Look in SYSTEM and APPLICATIONS for anything in the last day where you've had an occurence.
Double click on anything you see with a red X, press the Copy button, and then paste it here in your next reply.
