Popup Problems

I have been having problems with popups and unwelcome re-directs. I also had the folder with C:\Program Files\Common\_helper.dll open when I started windows. I am running XP SP3.

Before logging on to this forum I ran spybot and autoruns. I did all of the clean ups that they recommended and I used autoruns to delete the "_helper.dll" registry settings - and then I did a hard delete of the entire folder. I googled everything for information before I took action on it to determine what it was and whether or not it was malware.

There is at least one more file on my HJT log that I am concerned about and there may be more that I don't recognize:

I haven't used the "fix checked" action from the HJT interface yet.

Download DDS and save it to your desktop from here or here or here.
Disable any script blocker, and then double click dds.scr to run the tool.
  • When done, DDS will open two (2) logs:
    1. DDS.txt
    2. Attach.txt
  • Save both reports to your desktop. Post them back to your topic.
