Welcome to Safer Networking, I wish to be sure you have viewed and understand this information.
"BEFORE you POST" (READ this Procedure before Requesting Assistance) http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=288
All advice given is taken at your own risk.
Please make sure you have read this information so we are on the same page.
Make sure you read and follow the directions, anything else will slow the process and waste both of our time. I suggest you keep this computer offline except when troubleshooting, the junk may download more. If you have any tool I use, delete it and download it new from the link I provide. Read and follow the directions carefully, the tools will not work unless you do.
The junk can be tough to remove, so do not expect fast or easy.
I apologize for the wait, volunteers are swamped at all forums with infected computers. If you have resolved your issues, please post to let me know so I can close this topic.
1) Please DO NOT ENABLE Spybot S&D TeaTimer while we work together.
2) A word of warning: Neither I nor sUBs are responsible for any damage you may have caused your machine by running ComboFix on your own. This tool is not a toy and not for everyday use
Download ComboFix from one of these locations:
Link 1 (http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe)
Link 2 (http://www.forospyware.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe)
Link 3 (http://subs.geekstogo.com/ComboFix.exe)
* IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop
Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools
See this Link (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic114351.html) for programs that need to be disabled and instruction on how to disable them.
Remember to re-enable them when we're done.
Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.
As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.
Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.
**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.
http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c30/ken545/RcAuto1.gif
Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:
http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c30/ken545/whatnext.jpg
Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.
When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply along with a New Hijackthis log.
*If there is no internet connection when Combofix has completely finished then restart your computer to restore back the connections.
Tutorial if needed
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofix
3) Post also an uninstall list: Open Hijackthis.
Click the "Open the Misc Tools" section Button.
Click the "Open Uninstall Manager" Button.
Click the "Save list..." Button.
Save it to your desktop. Copy and paste the contents into your reply.

Thanks for returning your information and providing the feedback, before we start, make sure you read this information carefully.
c:\windows\system32\hadatagu.dll <<< that is a bad file
AV: McAfee VirusScan *On-access scanning disabled* (Outdated)
FW: McAfee Personal Firewall *disabled*
You must have an up to date antivirus program and firewall, if you need links to free programs, let me know.
LimeWire <<< p2p programs must be uninstalled, see this:
http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=282
If your helper detects the presence of such programs on your computer he/she will ask you to remove them. Help will be withdrawn should you not agree to their removal.
I do not see an uninstaller in Add Remove and will use CFScript, remove from the script if you do not want to uninstall but I must withdraw my help at that point.
c:\program files\Viewpoint <<< see this information:
For your information, Viewpoint is installed by aol probably without your knowledge. I suggest you uninstall this resource waster in Add Remove programs.
http://www.spywareinfo.com/newsletter/archives/2005/nov4.php#viewpoint
http://www.clickz.com/news/article.php/3561546
http://vil.nai.com/vil/content/v_137262.htm
I also see no uninstaller and will use CFScript to remove this junk. If you do use it you may remove it from the fix as the removal is optional.
Let's proceed like this and in the numbered order:
1) Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune
http://www.atribune.org/public-beta/ATF-Cleaner.exe
Save it to your Desktop. We will use this later.
2) Open notepad and copy/paste the text in the codebox below into it:
File::
c:\windows\system32\ctehmvlu.exe
c:\windows\system32\bffhmoqm.exe
c:\windows\system32\mfneighe.exe
c:\windows\system32\hadatagu.dll
c:\windows\system32\edl.dat
Folder::
c:\program files\LimeWire
c:\program files\Viewpoint
c:\documents and settings\All Users\Application Data\Viewpoint
c:\documents and settings\All Users\Application Data\nezaroga
c:\documents and settings\All Users\Application Data\bevirewa
c:\documents and settings\All Users\Application Data\vavusani
c:\documents and settings\All Users\Application Data\dojubapu
Save this as CFScript
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v666/sUBs/CFScriptB-4.gif
Referring to the picture above, drag CFScript into ComboFix.exe.
This will start ComboFix again. After reboot, (in case it asks to reboot), post the contents of Combofix.txt in your next reply. (wait until you finish to post the logs)
3) Run ATF Cleaner
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Click Select All found at the bottom of the list.
Click the Empty Selected button.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.
*Cleaning Prefetch may result in a few slow starts until the folder is repopulated:
http://www.windowsnetworking.com/articles_tutorials/Gaining-Speed-Empty-Prefetch-XP.html
4) Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your Desktop
http://www.malwarebytes.org/
* Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
* Be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
* If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
* Once the program has loaded, select Perform FULL SCAN, then click Scan.
* When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
* Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
* When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location. The log can also be opened by going to Start > All Programs > Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware > Logs > log-date.txt
* Please post the log from CFScript and the log from MBAM.
Note: If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts. Click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process. If asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately. Failure to reboot will prevent MBAM from removing all the malware.

How is the computer running now?
Thanks
This can be done as time permits, but it is very important.
Uninstall list: I look for malware and security issues and will not know all of your programs, but you should.
Hackers are using out of date programs to infect folks more and more,
Here is a small free tool that lets you know when something needs an update if you are interested:
http://secunia.com/vulnerability_scanning/personal/ While PSI runs in the System Tray for realtime notifications, I personally prefer to turn it off in MSConfig and run it from All Programs when I want to do a check.
Adobe Reader 7.1.0 <<< out of date and unsafe, see this:
http://news.cnet.com/8301-1009_3-10081618-83.html?tag=nl.e433
http://www.filehippo.com/download_adobe_reader/
(if you want a smaller program, look at this one)
Foxit Reader 2.3 for Windows
http://www.foxitsoftware.com/pdf/rd_intro.php
J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 6 <<< out of date:
http://forums.spybot.info/showpost.php?p=12880&postcount=2
Be aware of this information so you can opt out of anything you do not want.
Microsoft Does MSN Toolbar Distribution Deal With Java:
http://searchengineland.com/microsoft-does-msn-toolbar-distribution-deal-with-java-15413.php
Mozilla Firefox (2.0.0.3)
Mozilla Firefox (2.0.0.4)
If you are going to run Firefox, I suggest the newest, safest version:
http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/
Thank you! I will run the fixes asap today. I did want to let you know that about 1 week ago, before posting to this forum, I noticed the ViewPoint and LimeWire programs and removed using Add/Remove Programs.
Also, McAfee subscription expired and I got infected within hours it seems.... I would like it if you could share the names of some free virus and firewall sources. Thank you.
Will post logs as soon as complete.
Thanks again!

I noticed the ViewPoint and LimeWire programs and removed using Add/Remove Programs. Thanks for telling me, I was wondering why they were not showing in Add Remove programs. You can remove these items from the CFScript:
c:\program files\LimeWire
c:\program files\Viewpoint
c:\documents and settings\All Users\Application Data\Viewpoint
(won't hurt if it was run already, combofix can't remove something not there)
We will deal with replacements for McAfee once we are sure the malware is gone.
Thanks...Phil
Here is the new combofix log and the MBAM log:

Thank you. I'll see what happens on the next reboot and let you know.
The machine is running MUCH better. Performance is better, and no annoying pop-ups yet. I will take offline now and use my other computer to read your reply, though, until you are able to check my logs and provide some resources for free virus and firewall protection.
I really appreciate your assistance.

Thanks for returning your information and the feedback. What MBAM found is in combofix quarantine and infected System Restore files we will deal with soon.
I have a concern, files that were in the CFScript for combofix to delete, were not, that is these:
c:\windows\system32\ctehmvlu.exe
c:\windows\system32\bffhmoqm.exe
c:\windows\system32\mfneighe.exe
c:\windows\system32\hadatagu.dll
c:\windows\system32\edl.dat
If you put them in the CFScript you can look at the new report and see they do not show under other deletions. I want to be sure malware is not being left on your computer, please make sure you can see all files and folders:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial62.html
Then use one more more of these free online scanners the scan those files.
http://virusscan.jotti.org/
http://www.kaspersky.com/scanforvirus
http://www.virustotal.com/
If you find they are malware, right click and delete them, let me know how it goes.
I'll move on to McAfee, I suggest safest way is to download the programs you are going to use (installer) to the Desktop, then go offline and uninstall McAfee, then install the new program. If you have any problem with McAfee, here is a tool they make available.
McAfee Consumer Products Removal tool
http://www.majorgeeks.com/McAfee_Consumer_Product_Removal_Tool_d5420.html
This link provides freeware antivirus programs and firewalls:
http://users.telenet.be/bluepatchy/miekiemoes/Links.html
I personally use AVG 8 free, but you may use any you wish and you want to install only one.
(posting this tutorial if you choose to install AVG)
http://free.grisoft.com/ww.download-avg-anti-virus-free-edition
How to Install Free version AVG 8.0 without LinkScanner feature
http://russelltexas.com/tutorials/avg8install.htm
Once we know what those files are and you have replaced the McAfee programs, please post a new HJT log and we will wrap up.
Thanks...Phil
I checked these files after changing settings to view all system files:
c:\windows\system32\ctehmvlu.exe cannot find
c:\windows\system32\bffhmoqm.exe file is OK
c:\windows\system32\mfneighe.exe file is OK
c:\windows\system32\hadatagu.dll cannot find
c:\windows\system32\edl.dat file is OK
I am sure I pasted all of these into the CFScript previously.
What to do next?
pskelley
2008-12-28, 02:56
Looks like they are not malware? Please continue with the rest of those instructions so you have an active antivirus and firewall, then post a HJT log.
Thanks...Phil
Here's the latest HJT log after installing virus protection and firewall:

Thanks for returning the HJT log. I see entries in running processes that you start everytime you boot, and they may not be needed each time saving resources and boot/shutdown time. Have a look at this information to help your computer.

(do not turn off any security programs)
A minor glitch in combofix has been occuring, please do this:
Please click Start>Run and type msconfig then hit Enter.
If it does open, you can click Cancel to close it.
If it does not open, post to let me know.
Remove combofix from the computer like this:
Click START then RUN
Now type or copy Combofix /u in the runbox and click OK.
Note the space between the X and the U, it needs to be there.

Clean the System Restore files like this:
Turn off System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.
Reboot
Turn ON System Restore,
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
UN-Check *Turn off System Restore*.
Click Apply, and then click OK.
Update Windows Defender and scan the system for issues.
Update MBAM and scan to be sure we missed none of the junk, there is no need to post a clean scan result.
(MBAM is yours to keep if you wish, update it and run it once a month or so)
Update COMODO Internet Security and scan the system, to be sure it is running right and scanning clean.
If all is well at this point, let me know and I will close the topic.

If you are reading this information...thank a teacher,
If you are reading it in English...thank a soldier.
I will follow instructions later today, but wanted to let you know that COMODO found a new virus right away upon start up this morning and quarantined it.
It was located at C:\NIRCMD.exe and is malware Application.Win32.NirCmd.~A@1581100

That is why we do the instructions in the order I post them, Comodo would not have been run until after combofix was removed:santa:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic102325.html
See the information in that link, I believe that is part of combofix which will be removed with the instructions. Called a PUP:
http://searchsecurity.techtarget.com/sDefinition/0,,sid14_gci1066761,00.html
some malware scans like McAfee (and it appears Comdo) see part of some tools as a threat which is really a false positive. Let me know if you have aditional issues once combofix is removed.
Thanks

We need to verify the System Configuration Utility (msconfig) works properly.
Highlight and copy the contents of the code box below.
reg add "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Paths\MSCONFIG.EXE" /ve /t REG_SZ /d %systemroot%\pchealth\helpctr\Binaries\MSCONFIG.EXE /f
exit
cls
Click Start>Run and type cmd then hit enter to open a command window. Right click in the command window and select paste. The command window will close on it's own.
Please click Start>Run and type msconfig then hit Enter.
Post back and let me know if the System Configuration Utility opened.
If it does open, you can click Cancel to close it.
Do you want me to do this before or after I finish the insturctions from the 7 am post re: System Restore files, etc.? I am trying to remove combofix right now

Please complete the instructions in the order they are posted.
Thanks
Thank you, Phil.
My system is now clean and the code for msconfig worked.
I really appreciate all the time and assistance you have provided!
