Hi there, I can't seem to get rid of Zlob downloader . Even when I've used Viruscanv9.1.10 Datfile 4.0.4754, AdawareSE,Spybot S&D 1.4 update 2/5/06 in Windows Safe Mode and cleaned it out the damn thing seems to come back after I've been on line the next time. Any help gratefully received.Hopefully I've attached logs from Hijack this and Ewido. I was unable to include Spybot file as it was too big?

Hi

First do this :-

HI

1. Reboot into >>>safe mode (http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2001052409420406)
2. Double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
3. Select 2 and hit Enter to delete infected files
4. You will be prompted: Do you want to clean the registry ? answer Y (yes) and hit Enter in order to remove the Desktop background and clean registry keys associated with the infection
5. The tool will now check if wininet.dll is infected. You may be prompted to replace the infected file (if found): Replace infected file ? answer Y (yes) and hit Enter to restore a clean file
6. A reboot may be needed to finish the cleaning process. The report can be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt ... Post the contents of the C:\rapport.txt file in your next post here... + a new hijackthis log.

process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool". It is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.
http://www.beyondlogic.org/consulting/processutil/processutil.htm

THEN...

After I,ve done the cleaning as mentioned in the previous note Spybot puts up a message as follows,

Resident denied the change of
{4da4616d-7e6e-4fd9-a2d5-b6c535733e22}(Category Browser Helper Object) based on your black list.

This is repeated about 6 times and only goes away if I reboot.

This is part of the smitfraud infection and needs to be deleted from the registry...

But it looks like you have denied the change, when asked by spybots teatimer...& you have also ticked the box to remember this decision...

To rectify this and allow the registry value to be deleted....

1. Right click the "teatimer" icon in the systray
2. select "settings"
3. The black & white list will come up
4. click "blocked registry changes"
5. you should see this :- {4da4616d-7e6e-4fd9-a2d5-b6c535733e22}(Category Browser Helper Object)
6. click the X at the end of this line to delete it...
7. the next time the box comes up, asking if you want to allow it to be deleted, click "allow"

Hi

If you don't use the first 2 programs listed below ... AcroIEHlprObj & PBlockHelper ... then fix them with hijackthis, along with the others below them...

To do this ... put a check mark next to them in hijackthis and click "fix checked"

O2 - BHO: AcroIEHlprObj Class - {06849E9F-C8D7-4D59-B87D-784B7D6BE0B3} - C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 7.0\ActiveX\AcroIEHelper.dll (file missing)
O2 - BHO: PBlockHelper Class - {4115122B-85FF-4DD3-9515-F075BEDE5EB5} - C:\Program Files\SlipStream Web Accelerator\PBHelper.dll (file missing)

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {4da4616d-7e6e-4fd9-a2d5-b6c535733e22} - (no file)
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {53707962-6F74-2D53-2644-206D7942484F} - (no file)

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {7a932ed2-1737-4ab8-b84d-c71779958551} - (no file)

O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {ACB1E670-3217-45C4-A021-6B829A8A27CB} - (no file)

If you do use the first 2 .. then leave them for now...

If you have CD's or backup files anywhere for them...

Copy the AcroIEHelper.dll file to the C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 7.0\ActiveX\ folder

Copy the PBHelper.dll file to the C:\Program Files\SlipStream Web Accelerator\ folder

Go to start > run > type in regsvr32 "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 7.0\ActiveX\AcroIEHelper.dll" and click OK

Go to start > run > type in regsvr32 "C:\Program Files\SlipStream Web Accelerator\PBHelper.dll" and click OK

remember to put the path in quotes or it wont work... they should both work again...

If you can't find the files to replace, then you may have to reinstall the programs...

Are your problems resolved ?

Hi Steam
Good news you seem to have fixed it.:crowned:
I left the first two items as I use them and will sort them out later, as suggested.
The 03 - Toolbar was identified as part of McAffee Viruscan by Spybot when I tried to remove it, so I have left it in tact.
The following is the Hijack scan I did after the removals.

Lastly, Should I remove all of the previous XP restore points? as won't they include the dodgy registry entries?

Thanks once again for all of your help. This was the first time I've used a forum and it appears to have been a great success.:bigthumb:

Hi

You're very welcome :)

The 03 - Toolbar was identified as part of McAffee Viruscan by Spybot when I tried to remove it, so I have left it in tact.

With the file missing, it's now an orphan registry key pointing nowhere... so it's not doing anything ... but it wont hurt to leave it..

Yes it's always a good idea to purge your system restore folders, once your computer is clean... remember to turn system restore back on and create a new clean restore point.
