• Welcome Guest, to the Spybot Forums! It's 2025, and we just upgraded our forum software.

Today is Safer Internet Day, and with our new forum, you can finally use passkeys to login. That was about time!

Of course, you could ask if a forum is still useful, with so many social media networks out there where you might already have an account, and met a lot of users. You can now use your login from some of those networks to log in here. And by posting here, your question and data is stored on our servers and not automatically shared with a whole social media network.

We'll also start using the forum for small bits of information, announcements and more again.

Newbie with a question (please help)

Hi,

I've been using spybot for a while. I've just after reformatting my parents machine run into a bit of a snag. We have a multiple user acc. setup and only on the one account is spybot showing as working with tea timer in the background (ie. at the bottom right quick launch showing what's happening). I have setup the accounts so that spybot comes on automatically. However, my parents (being slightly elderly) are stressed out about it only coming on one account. I'm using v. 1.6.1- has anyone got any ideas?

Thanks for your help in advance.

Cheers,

jclift26:

In order to have TeaTimer start in a multiple user environment for users other than the one that installed TeaTimer, you must:
  • Logon as whatever user you want to run Teatimer under.
  • Start Spybot S&D > Mode > Advanced Mode > Tools > Resident.
  • Check the following setting:
    • Resident “TeaTimer” (Protection of over-all system settings) Active”.
This is necessary because the run key entry (startup entry) is stored in the current user (HKCU) Registry hive rather than the local machine (HKLM) hive as follows:

Code:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]
"SpybotSD TeaTimer"="C:\\Program Files\\Spybot - Search & Destroy\\TeaTimer.exe"
